No Mechanic - but in love, and want to keep running [CA]
Heya's my name's Aaron (San Diego CA), I'm 20 - but not completely ignorant. I bought a 1988 GXL automatic n/a 88k miles, about 2 years back for 800 USD, for a daily driver, from some idiot tuner kid who probably gave up tinkering on our sexy [and different] Wankel engines.
Not to say I knew of their uniqueness at the time. I just needed a car. And it looked cool, and ran... and was cheap: he told me it had a short somewhere and he couldn't figure out where... I'm no mechanic, so I just been attaching and disconnecting my battery every time I shut down and park. Meh, I was happy, been happy. And began reading about my car after some people began making comments to my ownership of such a machine. It made me wonder, and hunger for knowledge of our beautiful engine!
I'm a full time student, and not pursing any mechanic career or anything, don't have much in the way of tools or knowledge of under-the-roof stuffs; but I've been reading here and taking away simple knowledge and interesting bits over the months, and it makes me want to vow to my car and keep it running and alive, as I've come to notice there are so few peoples that can actually work on these cars without ruining their potential... And it's making me sick that mechanics offer to work on my car but yet are still scratching their heads as they turn to go do the work Zzz,
I want to keep my Rx7 running and purring, but I ain't no rich guy to be out running 20k USD under my hood. I'll just be happy if I can maintain it and prove everyone wrong that the Wankel engine isn't a piece of crap, or unreliable. I've come to love the style car, and the engine mechanics, and how we stand different from so many other wheels out there!
Thanks for this awesome forum, hope to get feed back that is reliable [more all the Mr Joe Piston mechanics' out there] we seem to be a die'ing breed: but I like it, and am glad to be here with you guys,
