Thumbs up Newbie from Memphis TN

Hello, just bought a 93rx-7 touring,5 spd, all stock except down pipe, and some kind of dual corm tip exhaust! The car is in red and only had 48,000 miles on it! Before I bought this car I already searched all about the faulty issues and the maintenance that this car needs. I'm a car guru, and I already own and built a 10 second daily driver evo and an sti, so this performance thing isn't a new thing to me (also a mechanic, and going to school to learn how to tune)! I do have to admit the whole rotary thing is very new and just by looking at it, seems like I need to study more about this car before I start taking it apart to make another 10 second reliable daily driver! Well, hope to hear from you guys soon and I know you'll see me ask many questions through out next few years about performance parts, diagnose, and locations of parts in the car! Thank you!

JJ

Mario, you probably cN help me out on this one! I'm about to do an oil change, filter change, o2 sensor, fuel filter change, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and intake swap!

My question is, if I drain all the oil out of the engine, would I spill a lot of oil when i remove the filter( filter is upside down on top/side of the engine as u probably already know)?
I see two spark plugs on driver side, is there another two spark plugs on the other side?
I already found the fuel filter (under the car hidden and strapped onto the frame)
And I'm pretty sure if I can find the other spark plugs I can easily find the wires for them! And o2 sensor I spotted the other day on dp! Is there anything I should look for when I do this maintainece? Should I check or replace any other parts? I'm gonna swap out some hoses when I take them off for the install of all other parts!

Drive a nail through the top of the oil filter and then remove it to leave a big fat hole there when you do the oil change...let everything drain and then remove the oil filter...I just keep one rag handy, just in case, but usually it's mess-free.

I see two spark plugs on driver side, is there another two spark plugs on the other side?

4 spark plugs total, all on driver's side. The rotary combustion chamber shape is such that a second spark plug is needed to make sure everything ignited in order to have a prayer of passing emissions for back then. Primary starts the flame front, trailing makes sure it stays lit and catches leftovers.

Since it's a 2ndgen, I'll defer that set of questions to one of the guru's who should be trolling about.

Mainly, oil and coolant...these are the two systems you never fool around with on a rotary engine...death is quick for these suckers if one of those systems fails.

Thanks for the quick reply guys! Just installed apexi dual intake, hks ssq III, did radiator hose swap, and now getting one by one on vacuume hoses but didn't realize there was so much and ran out of hoses! The o2 sensor was easy! I just can't find the other two spark plug outlets, but I'm pretty sure I can find it when I put in the intercooler kit! My next question is, after I installed the intake I can clearly hear the air pump over the intKe and the bov and sounds like my tires were rubbing! So I decided to disconnect the air pump from the clip up on top! Does that effect my performance? Or does it make me not pass emission nd that's it? I see a lot of people running without it so it kind of threw me off if it was safe to or not! I don't have emission testing where I live so I don't care about it long as it doesn't effect my cars performance overall".

Thank you
JJ
