Welcome to the club! First off let me say that you should post more so you can access more threads on the forum. RX-7's are a bit of a money pit because they're so old, money will play a fairly a good role in your life with this car. I'm a full time student and work about 30 hours a week and it's hard for me to keep up with my 7 to be honest. So at 18 don't get expect to get a lot out of an N/A RX-7 because of the costs to be honest, especially for drifting. You're better off getting a turbo engine because of the huge difference in power, and less headaches for future power builds. N/A's are ~$2000 and Turbos are a little closer to ~$2000-$3000 depending on who does it you really have to shop around.

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but it's just so hard to get good power out of N/A's and just bolting on an aftermarket is a pain in the *** and practically not worth the trouble for N/As unless you do a complete turbo swap. Porting helps to gain a lot of power out of all engines and will do wonders for N/A's, here's a thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...rt+increase+hp

However, first I would make sure everything is running right up to the daily driving specs that you want (assuming that this is also your daily driver). Remember this is a 20-year-old car and will need certain parts to be replaced, and may include crucial parts like the starter, TPS, Oil Meter Pump, possibly the ECU (our computers tend to crash), etc. So just drive the car for a month or two until all the kinks are worked out before you start modding.

- Also it helps to have a local friend well versed in the "art of rotary", if it wasn't for my buddy Russ I wouldn't be able to enjoy and take care of my car like I do today.
- Remember to read the FAQ section regularly to keep yourself informed on the basics: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-faq-fc-494667/
- It would also help to purchase the Repair Manual for future reference (you should be able to find them on ebay for ~$15-$30).

As for drifting you may have to search around for recommended body kits. If you decide to get an N/A engine then here's a thread I found a couple months ago out of curiosity: https://www.rx7club.com/drifting-226/official-n-drifting-thread-685745/

Oh and don't **** Mod's off, most of them are pretty cool and are here to genuinely help people as long as you don't give them crap. So if they sound harsh at times, suck it up, consider they're advice, man-up, and take appropriate actions. But they're people too so they might mess up every now and then but don't get too out of control if they do

depends on what you wanna do and your budget

I'll let you guys know right now that drfiting is not the cars forte.
They will do it but not as easily as a 240 does, 7's are more designed towards grip.
Unless you're talking about an FD's in the rain - then there is no grip.

Wow, I was surprised to see myself having a post in that N/A performance thread... man was I pessimistic But its true, I agree with the above poster. The cheapest practical power gains (with tons of potential down the road for gobs more power) is to swap in a turbo engine.
