Newbie from Baton Rouge, La. USA
Good morning, afternoon, evening... cause i see there are people from all over the world on here.
Name is Jeremy, from Baton Rouge, La. Picked up my first rotary car Thursday from a doctor who just wanted to be done with the car.
It is an all original, one-owner 1995 Mazda Rx7 in Authentic Red. It has 73,606 miles on it when I drove it home.
Just a little bit of background on me and how I got the car. I'm 24 and i study Sociology at Louisiana State University (Go Tigers!), I've been into cars all my life and have always loved the Rx7, but never really understood the rotary motors. I do wholesale parts to dealers and independent mechanic shops around town part time while i'm in school. I don't normally drive, but this particular day I needed to deliver some parts. The place where i delivered parts to always had this mint Rx7 sitting in its lot. I figured it was someones who worked there...
Finally one day, i asked who owned it, and they said it was a customers car, and that it was for sale. So i proceeded to ask how much ($5k), I told the guy I was off tomorrow and would come look at it/drive it/ put it on a rack to look it over. I did all three and the car was relatively sound besides some normal things that happen to rotary motors at this mileage (having found out after doing research).
I came back to the shop, made the seller an offer of $3500 cash and he took it. I was surprised as hell, but very happy. Turns out the seller, his wife, and their daughter are all doctors, not like they are hurting for money more than they are to get rid of it.
I signed the papers and drove her home...
- It doesn't smoke on start up
- Idles down correctly after initial start up
- Antifreeze has some evidence of oil, but nothing serious.
- It does the 10-8-10 boost pattern
- Oil leak on the passenger side above the plug wires (dowel pin o-ring maybe?)
- Couple of body defects
- Interior is amazingly good besides a tiny rip, and needing to be detailed.
- There is a small antifreeze odor after the car has been ran for a while, but I hear that is typical for a motor with this mileage. I plan on rebuilding it anyways.
I'm very happy for the price I paid, since fair retail on this car for its mileage and options if $15,500.
I look forward to learning a lot from you all.
Cheers!
- Jeremy.
Here are some pics...

The last pic is where she will be stored until I have paid my parents back for the loan to buy the car. It is at my friends house next to his 300hp Toyota Mr2. I drive the **** out of it every 3 days to keep the carbon from building up. i figure I have about 10k miles on it before it absolutely needs a rebuild. I still live at home, and just taking my time... I want to enjoy life before I settle down, and they aren't forcing me out so i'm kicking it.
Others:
This is my pride and joy, I've had her since i was 18 and did all the work, from the day I pulled it out of the field to what it looks like now. 1988 GMC S15, built 350 with a huge cam.
Before:

After:

Me with my new snail for the truck, i'm building an LS1 for the truck, with this GT4288: T6 housing, .73 a/r cold side, 1.02 a/r hot side.

My tow pig and daily driver:
