Hey. My my is Patrick. Im driving a an '84 GSL that my dad bought when I was growing up. Long time RX-7 fan looking for some more insight into the mechanics and upkeep. Would love to find myself in a third gen car in the next year or so.
Argh, you pain my heart on hearing you're going to dump that poor little '84 for an FD! 
Welcome aboard, Patrick! Why not transplant the heart of an FD into your '84 and be faster? Think less weight.
