new from sc, first rotary
hey everybody. i havent actually purchased a rotary yet but i'm going to look at an 88 rx7 tomorrow. from what i can see in the pictures it looks like its in pretty decent shape. my only concern is i've heard that rotaries can be somewhat unreliable. i figured, what better place to find out more about that than an rx7 forum. it's a 5 speed, hard top car with 152k miles on it. the seller is only asking 2500 for it. should this raise any red flags? could yall possibly give me some tips on what to look for when i go to check it out? I'm a huge chevy guy so i dont know much at all about these cars. Thanks ahead of time for any info and hopefully i'll get this car and i'll be on here more often.
welcome, u've come to the right place. don't know a lot bout the fc but as with all cars check it real good for rust and signs of wreckage, as in bad body work. make sure to check both cold and hot starts. hot start problems could be leaky injectors, or that in combination with low compression. also come check out the SE section and say hi.
Don't know if you've purchased your first rotary yet but the previous suggestions are very good. A properly setup rotary will give you years of enjoyment and reliability. As you probably already know, the rotary has about 1/6th moving parts when compared to a "normal" reciprocating engine. Good luck with your new toy!
