My name is Mike, and last week I got my first rx7, a 93 fd. Im probably going to need a new motor, so any suggestions would be great. Im living in Santa Ana, CA.

I got a new mazdaspeed from bumper to replace the bumper in the front, but I'll probably wait until I can get a good quality paint job to put that on. First things first though, I got to get it running
Anyway, a little about myself: last Japanese car I had was an 89 supra, which I put a new motor in and converted it to 5spd from auto. Did a lot of work to that car, but had to sell it for the money a few years back. My first car was an eclipse, got me into cars, its how I started from doing simple jobs like oil changes and brakes. I've had a 93 325 which I had headers, urethane bushings, chip, and other things to it, totalled the crap out of it
I drive a 95 v8 dakota 5spd with plenty of bolt ons (mopar computer, headers, CAI, locker, MP intake manifold, ported throttle bodies, MSD ignition, etc, but I can't wait until I can drive this little bad *** car!
I'm ready to tackle the tough but rewarding job of becoming an rx-7 owner!

Looks good Mike. I just got a red 93 that looks like it needs an engine as well. I also own a 91 Supra so it looks like we are both in for a similar experience with the rotaries!

haha no way! I had 3 mk3 supras before, 1 NA and 2 turbos. The last one was "fast", but so heavy off the line. I cant wait to drive a car that doesnt weigh so much. Are you getting the motor rebuilt?

When i got the car the intake manifold was half off, so I tried putting it together and cranking it but this is what happened:

I have no clue if this is normal for a blown apex but it doesnt even sound like it's cranking hard enough, and It seems to me like theres no compression at all.
Think its worth renting out the compression test kit?

Not sure where you can "rent" a rotary compression tester.
I am no rotary expert but I would check compression before anything else. If the compression is shot then you'll need to rebuild the engine if the compression checks good then it's back to the check fuel and spark and so forth.
I learned this the hard way when I purchased the SA it fired right up and idled then I wasted hours and hours after getting it home trying to figure out why she would not really develop any power or go over like 30mph. I posted on a local forum which led to two guys being at my house the next morning and turns out the compresion for the rear rotor read "0" "0" "0"
so needed an engine .... been driving it ever since

Sweet dude. i work really close to there on Harbor and heil. I know theres a rotary shop on harbor near my work. Its called RRR or fast freddys. I see a bunch of RX7's parked in front.
What else do u need to get it running? I'll definitely stop by and gain some knowledge from you.
