New to the Rx7club

I reside in fremont, california and am looking for an FC/FD that's pretty cheap. I keep trying to contact people butttttttttttttttttt i don't have any posts =(. Anyone have any advice on shopping for one? I'm relatively young and have around 8 k to spend? But am currently trying to pick up another job, so hopefully that will help out? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

My advice would be to find a decent FC. 8k will get you a pretty good one. Trying to find an FD in fairly good condition will be nearly impossible for 8k. They are expensive to maintain too. If you find one cheap to fix up also prepare to spend a ton of $. Look in the classifieds or regional sections on here and see what's there.

Yeah, but for 8k he can get a good FC and still have some cash left over. He may have to borrow the remainder for an FD if he gets one now and still have to think about maintenance on top of that. Another question is, do you have a DD or will the RX be your DD. An FD as a DD is not a good choice if you don't have the funds to fix it right away when something breaks. And even if he does it can take a while to repair it.

LOL i won't lie but i'm extremely happy these forums are nice. I've been to some forums where they're absolutely brutal. And to come into a subject i dont know much about... It's comforting. thanks guys.

ANYWAY. i've HEARD that the engine is quite a pain? And someone mentioned an SL1 engine swap? Is that unrealistic? I understand that's a lot of money up front, but would that save me in the long run? And i don't know if you'll consider this "spoiled" but my father will lend me money up front... and let me pay him back with no interest. I REALLY do want an rx7, but i've just been kinda thinking for the past couple weeks if i'm being unrealistic or not.

I honestly don't know what DD means =x. But i from context clues yeah it will be a DD. My family has cars that i could trade if i needed to drive an extended distance.

Should I PM someone. or start a new subject somewhere else?

Thanks again guys

An N/A FC can actually be just as reliable as a piston engine, they just aren't as quick as a turbo model obviously. There are many that reached 200,000 or even 300,000 miles. FD's just don't have as good a record on that as there are more things on them that can go wrong. Being twin turbo the engines don't last as long but that's going to happen to any engine when you force feed it. And I'm thinking you meant LS1 swap? They're a bit expensive to do. If possible, try to find one that's already been swapped, you'll save a ton of money that way. As I said, try looking in the for sale threads and see if anything is there.

How is the handling for an FC vs an FD? The thing that attracted me to rx7's are the godly handling i've heard about of the FD. I honestly didn't care less about horsepower... until i met my ex... but that's besides the point. And yeah i did mean an LS1 swap. -_- typo. There's actually a guy with an FC close to me who had a post last month that i just PMed. Don't know if he's sold it yet though. Thanks again Red.

Well the handling on the FD is better, but the FD is a completely different beast as it was purpose built as a sports car. But I promise you will have plenty of fun in an FC. I have a buddy with an LS1 FC and it's fun.
