TN New Rx7 owner in Middle TN

Hello,
Well I suppose first things first. My name is Joseph. I'm of course, male and 18 years of age. I'm from the Middle TN area. I am a new owner to Mazda, and even more so to a rotary experiment ( RX) 7 car. I own a 1985 Rx7 with the 12a engine. It is a 5 speed, with manual door locks, and windows, and sunroof. Though a nice car, she does have some issues, which I'm sure most of ya'll will notice, there are quite a few of em. Well, I'm not too good at the " Hey, I'm a noob, this all my info." Kinda thing so.. Have any questions, feel free to ask (( It's a forum.. it's what we do, aye?))

Well first, Joseph, thanks for rolling the dice and going with a 1stgen RX-7! These really older RX-7's are very much like the musclecars of the late 60's in that the emissions systems and engine are very basic and relatively easy to work on, just maddening sometimes because there's so many places for a vacuum leak and that Nikki carburetor, if it hasn't been rebuilt. But they can be worked on and made reliable daily drivers.

If you need more specific advice on some particular problem, hit the New Member Tech boards and give us those specifics, we'll be glad to help.

Thanks for saving a 1stgen from the crusher and welcome aboard to RX-7 Club! The more 1stgen folk who join, the better! Got a couple myself.

Well, in all honesty, it was luck. My other car, 1991 Toyta mr2, has a bit of issues that take a lil bit longer than a day or so to fix. As she is my only car , well was my only car, there wasnt anyway to get too work if i decided to fix her. So i kept bandaid fixin her. Well my friend had bought this Rx7, the same one i bought, (( same one I bought)), and was tired of tryin to get it to run right. Well, he was selling it for cheap, and I took advantage of the offer. Since I know of the issues it was having, (( he talked about the issues about trying to figure em out)) its not like he was ripping me off or anything. Well, anyways, thanks for the welcoming party, looks like I'll be hitting the tech section then.

congrats. im located in md tn as well and im currently on the prowl for an rx7 myself. i personally want an fd. there was one on cl for a decent price that was tt but it sold very quickly as the price was a steal. you may have even seen it, it was a white one and all stock. ive also only seen maybe a handful of other rx7s around here mostly in mt juliet. someone owns a really sharp grey fd with advans and another stock appearing fd at providence theatre.

I got my first gen. (( I dont know if its a fb, fc, fd or whatnot)) for one grand. No lie. Runs, drives, has an issue, as I just made a post for the worst issue. Has some body damage on the rear quarter panel, but to be expected, I assume, from such a low price. There was another first gen, i think , fpor 1500 or so on CL. I dont know if it's there anymore. I have seen one other first gen here in Murfreesboro, as well, as a thrid gen, and one second gen.

i would guess your first gen is an fb as the second gen i think is the fc and the third gen is a fd. a friend of mine has a nice first gen he is planning on trying to turbo. im trying to aquire a third gen fd and the one on craigslist was prob about a month ago for like 11k with pretty low miles. and yes first gens are becoming rare to see now just as third gens. i happen to see second gen rx7s all the time however.
