Hey im jason! im kinda new to this stuff so if anyone can post anything to help me understand better i would appreciate it!!! i recently bought a 87 rx-7 base model and looking things up on them i figured i want to rebuild the motor!!! its leaking oil, smoke terribly at 5-6000 rpm and engine looks like it needs cleaned up while im usually good with rebuilding motor the rotary is a lil different to me from what i understand!!!correct me if im wrong!!!!i know i got a long road ahead of me but im ready for it!! im tired of beefing up 350's and 454's for the strip i just wanna try it out and see how it goes plus i like the rear wheel drive effect of these cars as i live on a curvy road haha
Thanks for taking the time to register and welcome aboard to RX-7 Club!
On the one hand, it's definitely a lot easier to rebuild because there are simply a lot fewer pieces but OTH, it's also easy to forget or mess up one measurement or assembly and the engine is simply a dog, if it survives break-in at all. And while there are fewer pieces to buy to rebuild, all of it is more expensive if you insist on "new."
Still......it is easier if you've been rebuilding V-8's up til now.
