New to the RX7 and the Forum...
Hey gang,
Just throwing out the mandatory first post on a forum =)
I just got my first RX-7 yesterday. Traded a ninja 250 w/ fairing dmg for a 1990 GLS with 188k miles. Paint is starting to have clearcoat problems, interior is in really good shape for the year. Mostly stock a previous owner did put a different air intake on it. It had been sitting for about a year (or so I was told) before I got it, so it does have some "issues" that I plan on starting to mess with next weekend.
I'm registering here at Rx7club to hopefully learn from the Guru's and work out some of the kinks in the car. It will then turn into a daily driver for the redeye commute to the airport on monday mornings, and fun drive home late friday nights. I'm torn whether I want lean towards take it to the dragstrip on occasion or toward AutoX. I have taken other cars to the dragstrip, but never done AutoX before.
Anyways, enough typing =)
good to meet you all, and I can't wait to learn enough to wake the beast up in my tired little RX7.
Ken

Hey, Thanks for the welcome.
Its a 1990 GLS manual tranny non turbo.
Its running pretty rought right now. It had been sitting, and I was told it has the warm start problem. The guy I got it from didn't know much about RX-7's at all. He buys/sales vehicles on craigslist and somehow got it in on trade.
We had to roll start it and he claims it is because he had ran it earlier that day. After rolling it off I had the following experience:
If I took foot of accelerator, it would die.
If I reved it liked to backfire the first 5 minutes or so of running.
It did not have much power at all when going from a stop.
It would like to "shake" (like when you are in to high a gear and going to slow) if I let the RPM's get up to high when driving it.
The check engine light came on when driving it home.
I drove aorund the neighborhood for about 10 minutes and it started running better. I was afraid to turn it off through. It began to idle ok and would not die when I let off gas.
I drove it to the gas station and filled it up with 93 octane. It started driving better the more I drove it.
The check engine light stays on and it still isn't nearly as peppy as I would expect ( my wifes Grand Caravan has more pep).
I parked it in the driveway and came back out a few hours laster, it started on the 2nd try.
It does have new looking spark plugs and wires.
So that is hte long story of my RX-7.
I travel during the week, so will be tinkering with it on the weekends.
This sat I plan on:
Changing oil, checking plugs, checking check engine codes. and making a plan from there.
I'll start a thread in the tech section once I've done that to follow along with as I try to get it purring...
Thanks!
Ken
