New to Rx7
Hello all
My name is Steve Tapper
I just purchased a 1983 rx-7 s model, with only 100 000 miles.
I got it for what i thought was a reasonable price of around 2500.
Its interior was restored about 5 years ago.
I got 2 extra seats with it a box of trim and carpet, a new steering column in the box still from mazda.
as well as extra doors and windows for driver and passenger.
It was owned by the same lady since 84 and was garage kept in destin florida.
it was rustproofed and repainted original black when it was brought to the beach.
it seems to have very little problems. i drove it 3 hrs from destin florida to Mobile Al. without skipping a beat.

Welcome aboard, Steve, I've got an '83 GS myself. I deleted the tech question because this is actually the Intro board and it's where we get to know you first. My question is what drove you to look for and buy a 1stgen RX-7 in the first place? And how did you find your '83? Was it in an ad or was it a car you knew about for some time and had to wait before the lady finally sold it? Or was it an an eBay car??
Inquiring minds need to know!
And lucky you with all those mint NOS parts! That is to die for. Good find!!

It seems like just yesterday i was in high school and im sitting in the passenger seat of my friends 88 rx7 turbo II and a porsche 911 pulls up to the red light, it turns green and he eats our dust. That was the day i fell in love with rx7s. I personally jsut like the look of the front end of the first gen, they way it kinda resembles a old porsche. I have had a few project cars including a 1968 pontiac firebird sprint model, an 85 325i bmw made in germany(everything was written in german it was a trip, very fast car) a 325e, a 735i, '88 prelude. But aside from the muscle car i always wanted more. It came down to a 93 mr2 turbo if i could find one that wasnt destroyed(i couldn't) and a first gen rx7 which i did find. I found the car on autotrader which i was weary of at first until i talked to the lady over the course of a few weeks and got to know her and the car. She explained that when she went to the military her father restored the car and kept it in great shape for her until he past away. She kept the car in the garage for a few years before she felt she could let go. There was a young kid interested and begging her for a few months for it but she wanted to make sure it went to someone who would take care of it and restore it.(there was alot of sentimental value with this car you could tell) She told me everything about the car good bad and ugly.(some things i wouldnt tell if i was selling a car)not bad things but they didnt need to be said. Made me feel pretty confident that i was really getting a babied rx and not a beat up one. She knew every dent in it and what it was from. Very reassuring. I still keep her updated on the progress seeing how it meant alot to her. It felt like it was meant to be so i bought it and am not looking back. thank you for listening(or reading i suppose) Glad to be a part of the RX7 family.

A guy after my own heart...'68 Bird and everything!
Great story! It's just like that barn find musclecar but this time it was a rex! Definitely sounds like it found a good home. Lord knows how many weeks would've passed before the kid totaled the RX-7.
