So let me introduce myself. I am 56 yrs old and have been in the automotive industry for 30+ years, parts, service, body..you name it. I currently own and manage a very small auto salvage and repair shop. A few months back a prior customer called wanting to part with her 86 Rx7. It is a NA 5 speed no frills kinda car but I knew the car somewhat and was interested. Myself and my son decided to do the father/son thing and invest. The car had been in storage since 2019. We had previously replaced the engine in 2015 so milage is not correct nor do we care. It's solid, no rust, and very little fender damage by the nose. Oh did I mention we got it for 1000.00.? Anyways, later that evening when we got it home, after some priming , tank flush and fill, we drove it. Drove surprisingly well for the down time it had. We decided to go mild and just make it a fun driver. We gutted, cleaned, painted, dyed, or replaced things as needed. So far so good, Started Oct 1 and interior is almost completed, doors jamb and hatch done. next suspension swap to 5 lug, coil overs, 4 piston front calipers for now. Still working on a wheel package but I have some rollers set aside. Once the suspension, is done we will tackle a seal and gasket freshen up, engine bay, clutch etc..and then fenders and bumper. Later on we will decide on powerplant upgrade or replacement . Here are some starter picks.

Welcome to the forum!! What an awesome car to restore!! I've always had a soft spot for the base cars. Can't wait to see how the progress continues! Would love to see a restoration thread on the car in the 2nd gen section!!

 

I'm gonna work on that thread in the 2nd gen group. I was gonna ask, as I will be ASKING ALOT of questions as this build goes...I need a column cover, no tilt and a left A pillar trim, any color. I did search the forum but didn't see anything available. Just thought I would throw that out there.

 

So things have been going well and finally have engine out to freshen up. Couple of questions... First off, I have been reading and watch alittle about emission delete, fairly straight forward but any thought on deleteing the oil metering lines or is it worth it other than estetics? I have a new set not an issue but alot cleaner without. Also been reading about premix. I assume without the lines you would need to run premix. Again, new to rotories and still learning. I know there are plenty of articles but just wanted general thoughts.Thanks in advance for any input.
