New from North Carolina
Hi all,
I picked up an '84 GSL-SE a couple of weeks ago. I'm hoping to make some big changes to the car and get it into road racing, so I thought I ought to find a good community to get into since most of the car guys around here are either into American cars or Hondas. Sad that people feel the need to limit themselves to one type of vehicle, but that's just the way it goes I guess.
I'm not a stranger to the FB. My dad has owned 3, including his current '83, and I autocrossed one with a Holley carb on Koni Reds for a season in college. I've got some limited technical experience with the cars that I hope to expand on, and I will certainly have a chance with this new one.
Anyway, what good are these intro threads without pictures!
The night I bought it. Paint is bad, some dents in the body, passenger side door has some holes drilled in it, and the suspension screams its age at you. But it starts right up every time and runs strong, which is fine because the motor is the last thing I wanted to touch! The suspension is getting replaced anyway.
Looks pretty good for its age.
And here's the car next to my dad's '83. I might should be jealous of it, but then again it's too nice to tear up on a track.
I also own a Civic and Porsche, both of which are great cars. The Civic got me through college and was the first car I autocrossed and tracked, while the Porsche is new to me and has been a fantastic "weekend car" thus far. It's just too expensive for me to track it full-time.
Anyway, thanks for reading through that entirely too long first post!

Daaaang, sadly the engine bay is not that clean anymore. It's clearly in better shape than most, but some grime has built up. Pretty sure the guy I bought it from wasn't going to give the car the treatment it deserved. Did you ever get the other transmission/clutch in? Or do anything to lower it? Also, the front pads look like they have some life left, they're not in imminent need of replacing.

i did replace the transmission, from a reg 12a model...i do still have the original, 5th started having problems i'm thinking it's the linkage in it. the gear it self was fine i just had to hold there.....you can have it if you want....its in harrisburg at my moms..and the shifter doesn't pop in center nutruel cause i forgot to intall the little cup...and its on the other tranns too......i did put a new clutch oem exedy but for the gls-se i belive the oem replacement should be a stage one....the orginal wasn't too bad, its sitting next to the trans too......i all so did the exhaust but ran low on funds when it came down to the muffler...as far as lowering.....its old...thats why it sits like that.....my next move was to get some racing beat spring for it and some new front shocks....the rear shock, i know they look old but don't have more than 15,000 miles , the old man replaced thos...all the endlinks where changed....if you want to talk more you can give me a call 912-327-0027 anytime after 700pm
I'd take the transmission though, but do you mean Harrisburg PA? I saw the car spent some time up there on the Carfax.
