NC New from NC

Hello, This is David from North Carolina (Concord to be exact). I'll be around lurking and gathering information for a while. My daughter saw an '86 RX7 and fell in love with it! I know nothing about Mazdas or Rotary engines, as I'm a FWD Turbo Dodge kind of guy.
I'll be looking for some pointers, trying to understand the ignition system on these things, and probably looking for some parts for restoring if all goes well.

Welcome aboard, David! There's plenty of information to digest on these cars. Did y'all get the '86 or did she just see one and you're planning on getting one?

It was actually offered free of charge! The guy who has it, bought it for $200 because the original owner couldn't get it running. He had turned one before and made a little profit, so he was hoping to do the same with this one, but hasn't had the time. The car needs some work - mostly interior, and this starting issue The body is in very good condition for the age.
Now that she actually saw the car, and knows what I did with my Shelby Charger, she wants to get it and fix it up, so I'm kind of in the process of determining if this one is worth it, or if we can spend the same amount of money to just buy one in better shape and running....
My down fall is that it seems to be an ignition problem, and I know nothing about the Rotary Engine.

So the quick answer is... It's ours if we want it, but still deciding. Even a free car can sometimes be too expensive.

If the body's in decent shape, even rolling shells sell for $500 and up....get it.
