Hey all!

So I've had my 7 for about a year and a half now and I've been a huge fan of this forum, especially because my car has spent about 17 of it's 18 month life with me in the garage torn apart But I figured now that I'm finally getting near done with all my prep work and I'm about to venture off onto my first engine rebuild ever, I'd like to become a part of the community that has helped me every time I start throwing wrenches.

A little info about me and my 7's love life:

In the summer of 2012 I became the proud owner of the worst built 1988 Rx-7 convertible in the world. But I literally had everything working against me at the time as far as owning this car went.

- I was only looking for a convertible at the time, I wanted a summertime car I could get a nice paint job on and show off to everyone and feel like that made me important or something.
- I was never mechanically inclined, but most of my friends were, if there were any mechanical issues many of them were confident in their abilities to remedy it.
- I was broke. like broke. like so broke the definition of the word broke laughs at my lack of money.

So what is an irresponsible 19 year old going to do with the only $900 to his name?

If you guessed pay off his bills you were dead wrong! Which leads me to the fun tale of recovering my vehicle:

-I learned how to drive 5 speed the day before.
-The whole midpipe to catback was replaced with flexpipe.
-We thought it would be a hilariously good time to drive this car from Syracuse back home (a good hour or so) with.... The license plates from my 2003 Chevy Cavalier. We were very wrong about that

So as I'm sputtering along at the speed of smell struggling with 1st and 2nd gear on back roads we decide to get on the highway because hey "What are the chances of a cop passing us?"

Apparently 100%, So we block off the loudest rust bucket car on the road with my friends truck and the sheriff passed us with not even so much as a weird look. (remove heart from throat)

So after getting home, we of course immediately start tearing into the car, cleaning it out, drawing up some plans checking fluid levels and explaining to my mom why this was a great idea. We all settle down a bit to where I get on my laptop, open up the ol' Wikipedia and the next words out of my mouth were as followed:

"What the hell is a rotary engine?"

The majority of my friends either looked at me mouths hanging open or said that they had heard of it but said they think it had something to do with the number of cylinders in it... Which since we're all on this forum we can all laugh hysterically at.

So began my year and a half long learning process. After losing the title, getting it back after 5 months of courtroom visits, finally getting it on the road after replacing the exhaust and finally getting around to that paint job, impressing some girls, but impressing a lot more guys to my dismay AND finally after one month of the most addicting driving experience I have ever had, blowing my engine going 130 down a back road and driving home on one rotor, The uneducated, irresponsible 19 year old attention seeker who thought the experience of putting a CAI on his cavalier merits him in undertaking the full overhaul of a car that he had never even head of, has become a much more humbled, educated 21 year old with a project car in his basement and will hopefully be rebuilding his engine within the couple weeks to come.

I'm fascinated by these cars, and even more-so by the engines. And I will be a rotor head for life because of my little car that died in a month of my own use.

So if you've stuck with me, my name's Curtis, And it is a please to meet any and all who greet me back I've learned a massive amount from this forum and I hope to continue to learn and maybe one day be able to get back to others who were unfortunate like me to have a carpenter as a father (love that man) and have no idea how these engines function or any mechanical ability what-so-ever.

Now, after spending 30 minutes writing this, it's far too late to let me have an "open mic" so to speak.
