New member with a swap dream
My name is Matt.
Many moons ago I had my first rx-7, an 81 GS. I was sixteen and loved it. That car led to an 83 GSL and from there to an 85 GSL-SE. Fast forward twenty years and too many cars to count and I find myself missing my little RX-7's. I spent quite a few years drag racing DSM's and Evo's, but got sick of those and sold them off.
Being a guy that never seems to smarten up, I have this crazy idea of getting another FB and putting a 4G63 in it. I still have plenty of 4G stuff around, and I think the car would be a blast. Any thoughts?

The first issue is going to be finding a rust free car. I am thinking a GSL-SE might be the best way to go for both handling and fuel injection set up. I would like a clean running base to start with and then do the swap after I drive the car for a bit stock.

Trans I have not decided on yet. I am thinking 2wd Toyota for the rear end so I have a five lug wheel option with stock axles. It is hard to plan out the swap though with no car to look at and devise a plan for. My search continues

This sounds awesome I will definitely be following this. The wife and I just picked up a 83 gsl 2 days ago as a project and I have been racking my brain on what i would like to swap in it. My first thoughts was a 1uzfe or the 3.5l rover v8. I have had people tell me to do a ka24det or 1jz but I just cant decide. lol I am sick of the 5.0l or sb350 swaps i mean yea they are a cheap way to be pretty quick but i am craving something a little different. Good luck with this! I have seen 4g63 FD's but never a FB.

Still searching for a clean FB. These things are like hens teeth in New England. I want a driveable car so I can enjoy the car in stock form first and to also be sure I have the chassis shaken out before doing a swap. It won't be anything too extravagant, probably an Evo 9 turbo will be all it needs to go well. I still have a 6 bolt built 2.4 in storage that would be the perfect torque monster.

I ended up buying an 85 GSL. It needs plenty of work but the price was right and the body is rust free. I have the better part of a day in chasing electrical issues but it I am gaining on it. Hope to have it roadworthy in the next week, and start planning a swap from there.
If anybody knows of a 4G63 swapped FB I would love to get some ideas about the drivetrain and engine mounting.
