New member from Suberia (Russia)

Hi everybody!

I'm a new user of this forum. My name is Aleksei.
I'm 25. Live in Russia, Irkutsk, near Lake Baikal.
Instead of cars am addicted to music

Owner of stock JDM '99 FD since '12 May.
Every day I ride this car is awesome)
We made 80mm exhaust from downpipe (it was changed also).
Sound became agly))

Also I've bought a Power FC, but it suitable only for cars made 95-98. And when PFC is installed fans work all the time since ignition is on.

I've set up stock ECU, ride all summer, and in the end of it my car began hesitate. When we checked the compression we knew that compression in one camera (nearest to driver) is low.

So my introdiction has two questions:
1)Can I change PFC programm to my model year?
What the difference between PFC ver.5 - 95-98(my) and PFC ver.6 - 99+ ?

2)What do you offer to do with my engine?
What parts do you recommend to use?

I'm going to check it, and rebuilt later with street porting with stock twin turbos.

Thank you!

Zdravstvujte Aleksei!

I only know about 10 Russian words so we must speak in English. I will try and assist you!

I have been to Russia (Novisibirsk) and I understand you have a very rare car for your country. It will take time and effort to get the parts you need for your car to run well.

I know you are not on the side of Russia close to Europe but you may be able to find other owners to help you in this section of the forum: European Forum - RX7Club.com

PFC Versions: http://www.clubrx.org/media/pfc/PowerFC_FAQ.pdf

Look on Page 2B to understand which PFC version you are looking for.

In regards to your engine. You can try and rebuild it yourself or you may have to ship it to a builder in another country.

Good luck!

Kevin

Thenk you for reply, Kevin!

My PFC version is IV: '96-98 RX-7, built 12-95 until 11-98.
But my Car is 05-99 ...

So I have to reprogramm it or to sell it and change to ver.6.

We have I Rotor rebuilder in our city. He had already opened the engine, and now I'm going to see at it, make photos and to decide what to buy overhaul kit or another engine.

opened engine

We have opened the engine. A part of the one apex was flight into exhaust due to detonation. So we decide to change all apex seals, engine gaskets, oil injectors and rear stator.

1)Are rear and front stators the same one?
2)Where do you recommend to buy parts? (if private message if needed)
3)Can you advise anything?

Hi Aleksei!

1) Stator? I'm not certain the word is translating correctly! =) Do you mean the triangle shape part? This is the rotor. So if you are asking if the front and rear rotor are the same parts, then yes, they are. Each of the rotors will have a weight stamped on them (A,B,C,D). You want the rotors to have the same weight or be no more than 1 away. So if you have a B rotor, you would want another A,B or C rotor but not a D. Does that make sense?

2) I will PM you about good shops to buy parts from in the US.

3) There are many good ways to run these engines...and here in the US we only had the FD from 1993-1995 so many of our parts will not work. Some parts I would suggest you may wish to research.
-ALS Apex Seals. If your engine has problems, these seals will not break and destroy rotors or housings as what happened to your engine. I will PM you the name of someone who sells these.
-Oil Injectors. Generally there are not a problem with these and they do not have to be replaced. Many people remove their OMP and do what is called premixing. Research this in the 3rd Gen Section and you can make your own decision.

re

Thanks for support, Kevin!

1)I mean housings. I need rear housing because it's damaged, and my mechanic said that it was due broken Apex seal (in the corner of rotor). I don't know what else can damage housing.

2)Thanks for it!

3)I'll research about deleting OMP.

Aleksei from the pictures it looks like one of your rotors may have been damaged as well. New housings are expensive...about $650 USD if I remember correctly. The ALS Seals I mentioned would most likely not have caused that damage which is why people like them.

I will PM you in a moment the email address of a good seller of ALS Seals and I will put together a list of shops in the US that I have used parts from that were good...once again due to you having a newer FD some of these parts may not be compatible.

Hm...

Strange..
Mechanic said that broken apex caused the damage of housing and rotor. Also he said that damage of rotor is not serious, and that these damages are damages of the part which is almost not used in engine work process.

I suppose after your words that I haven't believe my mechanic , am I right?

I've found out about ALS, thanks))

Now I just need rear housing.

Where do you recommend to buy it?

Is my old housing not usable?

Hi Aleksei!

There is a part of this forum called General Rotary Tech (or similar). You can post pictures of your housings and rotors and ask for opinions on whether they should be used or not. That way you will get opinions from many different experienced engine builders and then you can make a good decision. You can also try the RX7 Owners Group on Facebook.

I will PM you the email of Ray Crowe. He gives all the FD Owners in the US amazing prices on FD parts (USDM) and he owns a 3-rotor FD. He will be your best bet for a new housing for a fair price in my opinion.

Greetings to you, your wife and son!

I've bought almost all I need.
Now I need to decide - how can I programm (or change with somebody) Apexi PFC for my gen and use bigger downpipe as installed now, or to use stock ECU with stock exhaust. The only thing embarrasing me when PFC was installed is that radiator fans were powerd on all the time, include the time whan the engine is not working, but ignition is on.

Because of that I changed pfc to stock ECU and I suppose that can made detonation (big exhaust, not enough fuel with stock ECU).

In different parts of the our country their own national (also food) traditions.

For the region I live traditionally to eat a lot a meat, fish from Baikal (called Omul [:omúl'], cakes with honey and more else.

As for me 3 years ago I became vegeterian.
