CO New Member Saying Hello

New member here just stepping in to say hello. I had been registered here for quite some time but it appears I never confirmed my account with the link sent by email, as when I went to make a post here today I was denied.

Anyways, I'm located in Colorado and although I unfortunately don't have a RX7 currently, I plan to add one here in the next year. Growing up my neighbor had a couple different FD's over the years that always stood out in my mind as a fantastic looking car. Later on, his little brother ended up getting one of his old FD's, and I would get to go for an occasional ride in it when I was around 16-17 and from there on out I've been hooked on them.

Fast forward 7 years later, and I'm finally in a position where I can comfortably have a FD of my own...so I'm just trying to learn as much as I can before I dive in.

I've started browsing the forums more recently lately, and I can already tell that these rotaries are a world apart to what I am used to in the Subaru EJ series engine.

Anyway just wanted to stop in and say thanks for this wonderful resource to have access to. I'm along way from contributing much, but I'll be around reading.

Welcome Aboard.

Everybody always says that the Rotaries are so much different than piston engines. In some respects they are, but I think the idea is blown out of proportion. They both burn fuel to produce power. They're both susceptible to detonation if the intake air temperature and/or mixture are wrong.

True, they don't have cams or a valvetrain... But there is a mechanism that controls intake and exhaust timing. There is a method that substitutes for the lack of a valvetrain and it's so much simpler than having a bunch of moving parts. That's kinda the fascinating thing about them. They do the same job as a piston engine, yet have so many fewer parts.

Also, what's with the CFI?
As in Certified Flight Instructor?

Thanks for the welcome.

I really think when this was all new to me, I was trying to overcomplicate things. The more and more I read the less foreign to me it's becoming.

Two things I'm most interested in, would be the water injection systems(how they work, what they do,...) and how rotary engines take to e85, as it's quite a common fuel around here.
