Hello! My name is Rachel. I just bought a 1984 Mazda RX-7 gsl. I decided to join the forum because a. i finally got my dream car, and b. its 30 years old and bound to have issues. I have a very basic knowledge of rotary engines and carburetors so any tid-bits of info I can get would be amazing. I'm already having intermittent problems with my carburetor. XD

Welcome..(hey a GIRL..holy crap..!..lol!)
If you are experiencing carb problems you may want to research that in the 1st gen Specific section,.You can also Post in the NEW Tech section as you do not have the Posts to access other sections yet(so please read all material at the top of this section to help you achieve that.)

Welcome, nice car. I saw your post re carb issues. Look on Craigslist. Buy a carb for 84 or 85 rx7. I think you'll find one. Rebuild that one, as jeff20b said do not replace needles/seats.
Do buy an 'impact screwdriver'. Amazon.
It will be very useful when dismantling carb the first time.
Buy a can of gumout carb cleaner. Use it to soak jets, bleeds, emulsion tubes etc. in a jelly jar.
Use fishing line to clean tiny passages. Use a toothbrush to scrub. Use carb and choke cleaner with a straw to shoot thru all passages or holes you find.
Taking pics and or making notes and sketches while dismantling will be a big aid to reassembly.
If the idle mix screw still has the metal factory cap on it leave it there.
You should use an 8 inch long section of 2x4 to rest the carb on while working on it. You'll see why.
Read all you can about the Nikki, cleaning it etc. it's not so hard to do, and the forum has a wealth of information. Use different search terms and read read read.
Once you've rebuilt the carb you e bought, and have it running, you'll e in a better position to rebuild your original. Then in time you may want to modify one for more powah!
Anyway, have at it. It's quite doable and you'll gain a tremendous sense of pride whe done.
PS
All my carb work has been done at the dining room table or on the table on the side porch. I have no other workspace. I use a big box with one side cut out to contain everything.

I was thinking about doing that as well! hah!As for the info on using the impact screwdriver, I totally didn't know it could be that necessary, hello amazon. If I run into any issues when rebuilding do you mind if I PM you? It seems like you have a lot of useful knowledge. Thanks!!
