New member, New project, this time with a deadline!
Hi all,
My name is Vance, and I am new to the board. I have had several friends with RX-7s (mostly FBs), so I have some experience with them, but this weekend I became part-owner of my first rotary, an 87 Turbo II.
I am about to start a build thread, so I won't go into too many details here, but the car was purchased by my father-in-law with the intention of using it for the $2015 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. If you aren't familiar with the competition, here is the website:
Grassroots Motorsports $2015 Challenge | Events |
Essentially, the goal is to build a car for $2015 or less for a three part competition: autocross, drag race, park exposé. My father-in-law is putting up most of the money (I am a grad student with a new baby!), and I am attempting to be the technical advisor/driver/manual labor . We bought the car for $1500 with quite a few spare parts that we hope to sell and recoup money to our budget (you are allowed to recoup up to $1000 by selling parts that were included in the original purchase of the vehicle).
I have always wanted an FC, but the timing has never been right to purchase one, so I am really excited to start this project. After the competition, the plan is to make the car streetable (at least street legal) and use it for autocross, rallycross and other fun stuff. This website looks like it will be an invaluable source of information.
After I start a build thread, I'll put a link to it in this post, in case anyone wants to follow. I am sure we will need advice and would welcome any ideas for extreme budget mods.
