I'm on my second RX7.

My first was a new 1987, started as a lease but I bought it out as I didn't want to part with it. The car had very few problems for the first 250,000 miles, then I had to replace the transmission, got about another 50,000 miles before it died in 1997. Unfortunately I didn't have the funds to fix it so I sold it. 300k miles... great car!!!

In January of 2008 I bought my second RX7, a used 1991 convertible with only about 72,000 miles on it. It has had a couple of different owners but seems it fairly good shape. This car has been prone to the notorious flooding problem, fun figuring that out since I very rarely experienced it with my '87 (I think it happened twice with that one).

I'm not a great RX7 mechanic. I grew up working on American cars from the 50's and 60's. I can do the basic stuff but often don't have all of the right tools and test equipment for anything beyond that.

If you know anybody in Nashville that loves working on 2nd gen RX7's let me know... I need to debug/fix a couple of things.

Biggest thing I ever put in an RX7 - My string bass. Loved to watch the looks on people's faces when they had the "he's going to put that big thing in that little car?" moment and then again after I closed the hatch. I called it my bass case on wheels, the neck rested between the seats with the headstock stopping just short of the radio/tape deck.

Strangest thing that happened while in my RX7 - As I was leaving a store and getting into my RX7 another RX7 the same gen and color pulled into the lot. Out stepped someone looking like my twin, same height/build, facial hair, etc. Thought I was seeing my doppelganger. Began to wonder if all RX7 owners looked alike...
