New Member Hello & Novel
Hello all,
My nickname is Gomer, I live in Fl/E. Tenn and have way to many hobbies and interests. One of those many hobbies use to be muscle cars, mainly GTO's. In 1981 when I finished my last project of that type car, I had intended to build a hot rod, something like a cut down '34 ford. The wife was ready for me to have other interests than a project that big and some how convinced me to buy something new and take a rest ( I was ready for a change of pace) and I agreed. The short story is I bought a new 1982 GSL RX-7, Black in color and it's main purpose was to be used only as a good weather toy, for those occasional jaunts into the Smokies, as I would have used a street rod. We had other cars for every day driving. From 1982 till 1986 we managed to put 4200 miles on it. Then unexpectedly we moved to Florida and a whole new adventure started. I did not even drive it to Florida but had it put inside the moving van and hauled down with our furniture, lol. It set for a few years in the garage at our new home with no time for even an occasional drive. Finally some time appeared (though a shorter window that I ever would have guessed) and I decided to start driving it, maybe to work. Garage kept it took very little to be ready for the drive. All waxed up and ready to go it never happened for what ever reason. We decided to sell that one home and live on a houseboat we had built, that meant it needed to be moved to another location at our other home on the West side of the state. Once again I hauled it there not wanting to drive it on any dirt roads, which our river home has. There it has sat since 1987 covered up in our garage.......
I signed up here to see what is happening with these cars now days and to see what I want to do with this car, as it has been on my mind lately. With its age and its 100% show room condition I plan on not changing anything on the looks or the motor, but really interested in some cool new age wheels and tires to bring out what the rest of the car looks like. Years ago I had info written down of all the tire/wheel combinations that would work under the fenders ,for 15, 16, and 17 inch wheels. That has long since disappeared and hoping to find that type of info here. Though I love the RX and its looks, sure wish I had known I was going to keep a toy car for this many years and it still be exactly as it came from the factory. I would have had much more money in my pocket keeping the last project car I had sold, a '69 GTO Ram Air 4. That is how it goes sometimes, as in most cases no one knows what the future will hold or where one ends up at and with what, you just roll with the flow!
hard to write novels with the short time login.....Face Book spoils you on lots of thinking time.
