MN New member 1987 RX7 turbo Minneapolis

Hello all!

I have owned my 1987 RX7 turbo since 1998.. I love my car and will never get rid of it. I bought it with 60,000 miles in mint condition. Since then it has been hit 3 times while it has been parked and I have acrued a total of 130,000 miles. So I have quite a bit of work to do. (Body and engine) I am just starting to upgrade the car. I do all of my own wrenching.

So anyways I thank all of you for letting me join. I have given it a lot of thought through the years. But if anyone has advice on anything, especially where to start or find a good price on parts. I would appreciate any advice people would be willing to give.

Again thanks to the members, moderators and site creators. This is a great resource. Please feel free to contact me with any advice

Welcome aboard, G87rex! What's the name and what exactly "drove" you to get that RX-7 back in '98? Sorry to hear about its rough life!

Holy cow! 130K !? My first FC blew a seal at 90K, but she was already riddled with issues, and my FD is approaching 120K.

My TII has 130k also. Still runs good just has a few small issues. Mainly the ICV and TPS.

Hey thanks for the message Mario. I am Troy and I finally joined because I love my car and want to be able to chat and get advice from the other people that are into the RX's too. Thanks for the message.

Chris and Cadioz thanks for the messages. Other than the body damage and now a cracked water pump housing she still runs great. I will just keep working to get it looking respectable again and it will be great. Good luck with yours as well.

Hmm, the water pump housing could be welded back together pretty easily I'd think.
Good to hear it still runs great though! It's a shame body repair is so expensive nowadays. It's almost cheaper to go get parts from a junk yard, and just replace the pieces, rather than get it reshaped/repaired.

Mine has a total of around 270k miles on it, (1987 also, but no turbo, yet But it was rebuilt not long ago, and the rebuilt engine only has around 36k miles on it currently. Barely passed smog the other day :P It was a salvaged car, so it's got all sorts of quirks, like... doors from some old toyota I think, (my interior is a bluish color, the doors are red and like a carpet???) And my interior is in pretty bad shape. (painting it currently, hopefully will replace it at some point)
But mine also runs strong, and I love the car.

Body damage, to get repaired + painted, seems to be around $400-600 per major piece, so hopefully you either find someone cheap, yet professional, or are able to do the work yourself.

Good luck!
