Hey everyone. My name is Chris and I do not yet own an RX-7, but I am planning on it. I wanted to join this forum so I could do a little research and ask a few questions about the RX-7. Currently I drive a 2000 Toyota Corolla that actually does pretty well holding its own at the autocross course, hard to believe i know. But I am looking for something that will be a better base for an autocross car, a car with more potential, I squeeze every bit I can out of the Corolla but without heaps of money it will never be fast, and it will always be front wheel drive sedan. I have a few cars I am looking at as my mainly autocross car: 2nd gen mr2, 2nd gen rx-7, 300zx, and a miata are the main ones. So i'm not sure if I will get the rx7 or not but they are definitely cool cars and you don't see that many out on the course unlike the miata. I really don't know much about these cars or the engines in them so I plan on asking many questions and if you guys do convince me to get one, I will be on here all the time. Thanks in advance guys, I look forward to getting to know people around here.

 

I can't post anywhere else so I will ask my first question here and hope someone will read it. What should I look for in a used rx7, what should I watch out for, is there ways to check if the engine is failing, what should it cost, anything else I should know about the rx7 before I buy it?

 

A good place to start is in the 2nd gen part of the forum. Something I learned is that the search function is your friend. So even if you can't post you can still look for answers. Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you find a vehicle that meets your autocross needs.

 

Right after I posted this I started searching through the forums and found the aaroncake website of whatever it is. It helped me out a lot because now I have a whole list of things I can test out on my potential rx7. Im already loving the site and everyone seems nice and hopefully my newb questions wont get on anyones nerves, I know how annoying it is trying to explain piston engines to people who know nothing about them but hopefully you guys will have patience with me

 

What is this piston engine that you speak of? People are really nice here so you won't get on anybodies nerves. I suggest a first gen because they're simple machines that have less problems. But that's just my 2 cents.

 

Thanks for the welcome, as far as what car I'm going to get kinda depends on what a can get my hands on. I think the rx7 is going to be my choice because of the rarity of the rotary, not really sure about the generation yet. I don't really know anything about these cars but I'm willing to learn. I know how to improve the internals of a piston engine but Im kinda lost on the rotary.
