Hey everyone, im new here and though i dont own a Rx-7, I do own a 2004 Rx-8. Just coming on here to do a bit of learning and to look for some helpful advice. Ive heard i could get a lot of help coming here from different people when it comes to rotary, so i did.
Im hoping to learn a lot about rotaries and eventually do almost all the work myself, or at least the know-how to keep mine always running strong

 

If there's one thing in abundance here, it's rotary advice. What can be used is all up to you. Interesting that you'd come here for more rotary knowledge.

I actually have the 4 port 4 speed automatic model... i have kinda mixed feelings about it. (4 port 4 speed = slow)
After some poking around though, ive come to learn that rx7's run 4 port rotaries, which was actually surprising to me. I know that though the engine doesnt produce as much overall HP as a 6 port (renesis at least), it does produce more torque.
I was somewhat interested in making my car stick shift, specifically a 6 speed MT, but i didnt know if it would be better to run a 4 port with more torque, or 6 port with more overall HP? I have many, many questions and any help would be greatly appreciated. hell, if there is a shop or something down the road of me id be more than happy to intern/be an apprentice and maybe eventually get a job there.
Maybe thats being a little too hopeful lol, but i at least want to learn more and get the opinion from many of the people here on what i should do.

 

In a street car, the actual weight of the car would be the determining factor for me. With a big old heavy Pontiac, I need all the torque I can produce to get it moving quick from a stop light. With the RX-7, I'm thinking that mods toward improving HP are a better idea. You want the engine to breathe freely. Course, that beast is all of 2500 lbs...so what does the RX-8 weigh?

keep in mind i have the 4 speed automatic, but it is a 4 port vs the manual 6 port.
