Talking New Guy from Glendale AZ

Hey all. I've joined to get info and expertise on swapping alternative engines into RX7's, primarily, FD's. I've been shopping light weight cars so I can a fun powerful car with less weight. I'm an old time Pontiac and muscle car nut. I'm building a '63 Pontiac Catalina Gasser right now. But it is heavy. My last fun car was a turbocharged 455 '73 Trans Am but that was 3800 pounds with me in it. I want a smaller, light car with a variety of engines that will be scary enough to keep my attention but docile and reliable enough for city driving and occasional cruises/road trips.
Because of emissions in this state, I have to have something old enough that can work for classic car insurance, then it can be registered as such and the state waves emission testing. Anywho, I've looked into 300ZX's, but they start getting back up in weight. Corvettes, but again back up in the 3400 lb or more weights.
So, with all of the aftermarket, online, and personal support that exists for RX7's, the light weight and the great style of the FD really seems to be the best bet. The large engine bay provides for a lot of interesting possibilities. Not to mention their affordability.
I'm looking forward to researching the pages here and see what has been done, what can be done, and what I can come up with. Thank you in advance for all the help, time, and energy all of you might throw my way.
Oh, and thanks for having me.

Mark
