New gal intro - just outside Washington, D.C.
My first post. I just finished washing my 1985 RX-7 GS that I've owned since October 1984, so nearly 29 years. It has more than 200,000 miles and is still hanging in there. Anyone else out there with super-high mileage? If yes, how's yours running?
Best regards, Bernadette

Thank you Misterstyx. Like the postal service credo, this car has brought me through just about everything over the years, so plenty of drama and comedy for a movie! I like to say I've had my car longer than I've had my veterinarian/actor (so a "Weekend at Bernie's" movie is a possibility)/writer husband.
Welcome Bernadette. You are proof that the rotary can be a very reliable engine in spite of the naysayers. The naturally aspirated 1st generation cars lasted a long time. It's when silly people keep turning up the turbo boost until they go boom that problems seem to happen.
There are quite a few people with rotarys up in your area, some of them even run.
Be sure to make it out to some of the local meets/auto cross events. The yearly Deals Gap Rotary Rally in NC (around April) is also a mecca for the faithful on the east coast. Meeting others inflicted with this bug is what makes this hobby so much fun. You might even be able to talk your veterinarian/actor/writer husband into being your co-driver, it's always fun to terrify the spouse.

Hi GySftFrank. Your rebuild is an amazing piece of work. Some spend money on golf, others create. Or recreate. You say the exhaust was pricey, but from the photo, it is a thing of beauty. My car is a bit noisy at times and I suspect some rust issues related to the exhaust. Great job on yours.
As far as my 200,000, I've fortunately never had any engine issues, just other peripheral parts wearing out -- radiator, slave cylinders, a hard-to-figure out fuel relay switch, etc. Maybe the regular oil changes help. Thanks for the info on the NC Rally. That would really be torture for my husband!
But worth pursuing nonetheless.

200,000 Original Miles!! That's awesome!!
It is incredible what N/A rotary's are capable of. In our mid-80's RX7 race cars there were plenty that had run on the same engine for several seasons, Apex seals often got a little toasted and required a shot of ATF down the carb to get them started, but once they were running, all was good.
Welcome!

Hey Cookboy, 130,000 is impressive, but I know what you mean. Even 200K is low for a 29 year old car. What I find really interesting the more I read others' posts and look at other '85s for sale is those cars with fewer than 100,000 or so miles. I guess there truly are those little old ladies only taking their RX-7s to church on Sunday.
Hey 200k miles wow that isn't bad. Growing up my buddy had an 85 rx7 it was auto and it had 280k on it. I'll never forget we drove it from Selden NY to Akron Ohio to go visit his family. Car was doing 110 mph easily with no sweat and car was solid. Take care of it
I just bought a 91 NA Rx7 today! She's in real good condition. She's got 117k on her. I have owned 6 T2 second gens in the past so this is my 1st NA
