New to Forum from Cajun swamps
hey my name is Kevin...I'm from Louisiana..but don't live in swamps. i just bought my fourth rx7 ive owned. It's the only one I have now, but have had three others over the past 15 years.I've had an 81, an 88, a 90, and now this one is an 85 gs.I saved this little gem from a 12 year hibernation sitting under an oak tree the whole time in a ladys front yard.I would pass by this house every day going to work for years. Finally one day about 3 years ago I stopped and asked if I could rescue the car..she said, " oh no, my son is supposed to fix it up for me..don't wanna get rid of it because it was my very first car ...bought it brand new in november of 84...after graduating high school.Well needless to say it still sat under that tree...and i would stop and ask every year...with a firm..NO ..but finally on the fourth try..she agreed.I paid a $100!!
.I found out the reason it was put up it would no longer idle and ran like crap. body and interior in great shape. just slightly faded paint and flat/dry rotted tires. The dealer had put champion plugs back in 1998. and both leading plugs had melted tips, along with wore out cap and rotor.I replaced cap/rotor/plugs(ngk), rebuilt carb(ok I basically tore carb apart, cleaned everything and put it back together using cardboard paper from front of several notebooks and sprayed with gasket tack).I replaced fan belts, purged gas lines removed and cleaned gas tank. soaked rotors down with wd40 for days while turning engine a little at a time by hand...now it runs like a top. still needs a few things here and there due to age.. but a very nice low mileage (95k original miles) car.
