New Female Member and Nothing but Problems on a MINT 1985

Hi, I just bought an 85 RX7 that was someone's baby as the second owner. He spent a LOT of money on it, had it stolen, and then slowly got discouraged and disinterested after a brain surgery. ANYWAY, it ran killer the day I got it. Had full power. Burned alot of gas. Gears on time. Breaks amazing. All gadgets and hear work. Racing bar and roll bar on the engine and the inside of car. 5 point racing harnesses. Mint $5,000 paint job, brand new tires. Ran KILLER. Then when it wouldn't pass smog, I was told in order to do so I would need a carburetor rebuild. Ok fine. $1,000. Then I get it back after 3 weeks, and within 12 hours I have a plume of billowing smoke under my hood while warming the car up after cold start for 10 mins of 2,000 rpm, so I lift hood and let cool off, and then an hour later bring it back in. Now, it's a gasket leak. Antifreeze. Another $300. Now, four days go by and I get some smoke under hood. Its leaking and coming out of engine exhaust. So now, it stops but next day, back to another cloud storm and coming out of engine exhaust. This time the puddle is oil. How is all this possible within one week of getting my car back???? From a carb rebuild??? Car starts up on very first try. Runs amazing. As it approaches 3-4,000 rpms, it almost stutters at lack of power and had NO TORQUE for a split second. Than torque picks right back up and it goes for even longer rpms. But the "pick up and go" on this car is nowhere near the power it had before. So I understand the tweaking of my carb took away the gas injection and hence, lost power, but I need to pass smog then get my power back. In the meantime, I'm about to lose my sh*t on the mechanic because why? AND THE ARE ALL COMPLETELY UNRELATED. Any comments at ALL would be SO APPRECIATED. But please be respectful, because I am new to this, but still a player in the game, and I kinda already catch onto things quick. No nonsense, help or don't. Thank you!!!!

Welcome! Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having. Given the age of the vehicle some leaks do develop, but I have never in my 20 years of rotary ownership had issues with leaks like that. Those seem to be very odd. If you do not have the tools to repair the car, I would find a shop or mechanic that is rotary specific or has extensive knowledge when it comes to rotaries.

If you create a thread in the 1st gen section we can continue helping you, as this is an intros section only. The fuel delivery and power loss are likely related and can be sorted out easily.
