New FD owner needs help
Hey i just joined the rotary club. I have been lurking on this forum for over 3 years now.
I recently picked up a project 1994 black/ tank interior touring.
The engine runs but there are definitely some problems with the car. The car was purchased with very little coolant and oil in the engine and i do not know how long the car has been like that.
Sorry for the long post, car has its problems.
The oil pressure gauge also shows less then the lowest bar at idle, is this correct?
After adding oil to the car the oil pressure gauge actually dropped the zero. Could oil be leaking from the oil filter onto the sender? The next day i added some 2 stroke oil to the gas tank. the gauge showed higher pressure but still fluctuated quite often. What do you think you guys think the problem is?
I am going to preform an complete oil change soon and a coolant flush, i just wanted to get some in the car first.
The car idles somewhat rough and sputters a little. The previous owner said it sat for a while so it is possible that there could be water in the gas tank.
The car seems to rev fine, but when i stop applying the throttle and the engine is decelerating the engine usually has problems. Sometimes the engine, while decelerating, kind of makes a grinding sound. Im not really sure how to explain it. It doesnt always happen but sometimes it does. It also jerks sometimes when i stop applying the throttle. It jerks and then decelerates normally.
Sometimes when in 1st gear the car starts bucking wildly. Im pressing on the throttle but it wont rev past 2k rpm and keeps bucking. If i shift straight into 2nd gear it does not do this. Anyone experience this before?
Has a boost gauge installed. I have yet to see the gauge show consistent boost. After driving it a few times sometimes it would show 5 psi of boost. But normally it shows zero boost on the gauge. Im not sure if the gauge is defected of the turbos. I have yet to take off the intakes to check the turbos or check for leaks.
I have quite a bit of work ahead of me and any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully i can save this engine from a rebuild. The engine was replaced by PFS around 30k miles ago, but the treatment to the car from the previous owner does not look good.
