What’s up everyone, so I just purchased my first rotary and already bumped into some issues haha.....1988 rx7 convertible 5 speed..... when I purchased it, it needed a new clutch so I got that installed and after maybe 200 miles of driving it, it started to overheat on me so I parked it and got it towed home.....
went to start it up the other day and noticed that when I cranked it that the radiator and overflow tank built up pressure immediately, any idea what would be causing this?
Welcome!! Looks like a really nice car. As for the excessive pressure in your cooling system, this can like be attributed to faulty coolant seals near the exhaust ports or a corroded channel on the housing where the coolant seal rests near one of the exhaust ports.
Either way, if that's the issue, it's time to rebuild or replace the engine.
Oh man, any idea of how much it is for a rebuild usually “ballpark” and if your located in the Bay Area would you happen to know of anyone who works on rotarys
I'm in Ohio.. But I would recommend www.atkinsrotary.com or www.mazdatrix.com. They would be the largest rotary companies that would be as local as possible to you.
The interior and engine bay are in great shape!! That would be a great car for a new engine and one to enjoy for many years!
