New FB owner in Monterey, CA.
Hi folks,
My name's David. I go by Fungus Mungus on most of the frequent. I spent the last 3 years building up my former daily driver (an EG Civic hatchback). It was a fun car...lots of power (all-motor B18C1 swap bored and stroked to 2 liters) and I managed 13.2 in the quarter mile and would have hit 12s had I not spun a bearing. :p . I sold the car to a friend who is planning on nursing the motor back to health so he can have fun with it.
This time around I'm looking for a fun auto-x car. The Civic, w/220whp on tap, was a real handful in auto-x and I felt like I wasn't doing myself any favors learning that style of driving with that much power (in fwd at that). A friend of mine has a 10th Anniversary RX-7 which I've always liked. I decided to hunt for an FC or FB. I just picked up a nice FB the other day from the original owner (an 84-year-old woman). She babied that car...it's in excellent condition. White exterior with brown vinyl (I'm pretty sure) seats. There is no trim level badge, so I'm assuming it's an S or SE model as it doesn't have rear disk brakes. Pics to come later...I need to give it a good bath and polish.
My immediate plans for the car are installing an LSD, a new set of wheels, and tightening up the sloppy steering. Then I'll have some fun. Maybe a 13B or 13B turbo swap in the future, but I'm not in a hurry to be putting down a lot of power. I watched a Toyota Tundra (w/stock 140bhp motor) wipe out a few Miatas, WRXs, and Evos in auto-x a couple of weeks ago. Bone stock.
Anyway, that's my intro. I'm looking forward to learning more about this car (and rotary cars in general).
