I just purchased an '82 RX7 that I have had connections with for 42 years. It belonged to my Surrogate Dad Mentor and Friend who passed on in 2023. He bought the car in '83 with about 10K miles. It now shows 54k and only driven 2500 miles since 2020. Always kept indoors, so it's in pretty nice shape. Needless to say it needs all the soft items and fluid changes to make it roadworthy. It started right up after sitting since 2023. It was one of the last of his multi-car collection that he had washed, drove and parked as he did every month. My experience is pretty broad having always kept my daily cars maintained and repaired. I've owned Mazdas before this.

I have restored and repaired many British cars which have been my primary interest. I currently own a '62 Austin Healey Sprite that I was restoring when my Mentor bought this RX7. I also have a '71 Triumph TR6 that I have enjoyed since 2014. I sold a fully restored MGB GT to buy the TR6. So my tastes vary and I have many years experience, but I am new to rotary engines and have a lot to learn. I am a Mechanical Engineer that will be retired as of next year, so this RX7 will get a good going over as I have more time. I currently have the engine out of my TR6 doing more of a refresh than rebuild. Bearings have to be replaced more frequently on those old engines.

Congratulations and welcome. Car sounds nice, would like to see some pics! Your background with the British sports cars will serve you well with the Rx-7. The engine may operate differently but they all just classic sports cars with similar basic mechanical needs. Both have cult like followings too.
Seems you also are experienced in maintaining a collection of vehicles. I know this can be a full time and daunting responsibility. I am also spending my retirement as the care taker of my small collection of Rx-7's.
Looks like a very nice, unmolested example. I suspect it's in good hands. It's an S model?
Yes, it's an S or base. It has AC and just the AM/FM radio. No tape deck. I don't plan on doing anything radical to it. Just improve some weaknesses and mainly go through everything that has aged. Everything is original but the tires, Original air filter.
master cylinder and paint. Even the air filter is original. We had to paint it in '84 due to some damage to the front.
Welcome to the forum!! Your 82 is absolutely stunning and I'm very glad to hear that you now have the car. The car is an absolute time capsule and based on your background, I'm confident you will have the car back up and on the road in no time!
Welcome. Thankfully no Lucas, Prince of darkness, with the RX7. The car is conceptually based on the Lotus Esprit and gives a lot of the same enjoyment as the classic British sports cars. You should attend the Deals Gap Rotary Rally in Bryson City, NC at the end of April since you are close. A lot of really great car people will be there with their rotary obsession.
What the 2 digit color code on your firewall tag? Looks like a Black shade. PZ is Brilliant Black. I agree in keeping it stock, they retain the most value un-modified.

It will have to be next year for the Dragon. Too much to do to have it ready by then while getting my TR6 back together.

Yes, it is PZ Brilliant Black. Hopefully I'll get it washed this weekend. Other than some touch up needed, it seems near perfect.
