TX New to the 7's

Hello all .... new the the RX7 game. Always loved the car but never got around to learning about them. My love for the Supra is far greater lol. I am looking into getting a project RX7 so I am starting to read around on the forums to learn about them. Any pointers as to what the main problems are with these cars? What to look out for when purchasing one? I know the basics but any particular problems to be aware of?

Thanks In Advance,
Sumit Jay Dalwadi

Hey welcome. I am new to the club and also in texas. Some typical things that I have found are....cubby hole in drivers door always broken, defroster vent on dash always broken, check to see if drivers door handle has been replaced yet if not you will need to (week composite material), find out if you need to ad oil to fuel when you fill up or if the car is mixing it for you, They are easy to rebuild so dont be afraid of needs rebuild. Anyone else?

specifically you need to use 2 stroke oil cause the oil injectors are weak. something else to check for is the vacuum systemi. i didn't know enough about it at the time i bought mine so i didn't realize that half my vacuum lines and controls were missing, making my engine run erratic and have boost issues from overboosting to no boost. take it on a test drive and try not to think about how badly you want that car, but instead listen very carefully to how the engine is running and how the drivetrain is performing. if you're getting an FD, check 5th gear, the synchro's are boned on mine, and i've heard it's a common problem.

Thanks for the input! I'll keep all this in mind during my search. Anyone know of a good RX7 for sale? Im thinking of buying just a rolling body and drop another engine in there and just be able to do what I want to do with it. Any thoughts?

well I DO originally want a rotary, like i said im new to the rotary scene and I want an RX7 with the rotary but that crazy side of me wants to drop a 2JZ into it lol ... but it all depends on what kind of deal I come across. If I get a great deal on a roller and on a 2JZ or I've even read a little about the 30B swaps? ... I'm not really sure what I want to do as of yet ... got my mind racing with ideas and getting a clearer picture as I do my research but I'm leaning towards keeping it a rotary I think and maybe finding a separate roller for the 2JZ project to do slowly .... and farther down the road lol

Hey whatever works for you brother. I think a 2JZ swal would be fun if you had a good deal on one or a 20B would be really nice if you had deep enough pockets. 13B makes plenty of hp if you do the right things though. With all the money that you would spend doing all of those swaps you could put together a pretty damn fast 13B and still retain the right balance for the car. Just a thought.

if you absolutely must, drop the 2jz in a rx3. the old 10a engines were junk anyways lol. they went through apex seals like i do cigarettes. plus it'd be one hell of an effing sleeper lol

Op, if you are in houston area. stop by jtran studio shop. He is 350z sponsor now, but he used to have a very nice black FD, and he can help you out any your future plan.

If you need his shop info, shoot me a pm.
