Well I am a kid around the age of your kids, and I have just recently bought an FD. So I sort of understand your conserns about them driving it because for some reason, the RX-7's just want to go fast. Lol. Right now I haven't let anyone drive my baby, not even my parents for fear of them screwing something up. But maybe someday I will grow to be as brave as you and let someone drive it!

You should try to get them to get a RX so you guys can have family RX meets with other locals! Then slap a 20b in yours...

 

I almost totaled my mom's car once and wrote it off the second time. I wish I was encouraged to attend an autocross course in my youth to learn the limits of a car on a closed course. Your kids could look at getting their own cars for next summer, the cheaper the better, and take a performance driving course! Good luck with keeping your baby in shape. I just picked up an '87 RX7 and can't wait to take the wife out for a spin and teach her how to drift

 

if they know how much the car means to you, you should be fine.

 

Don't worry, i didn't wreck a 7 till i was 27. I had one when i was 17...

 

Might be cool to pickup another one they can share, make it a project car they can work on it together to bring it up to the standards set by yours.

 

my dad has some sweet rides he lets me take out which i respect but i still take them to the brink of breaking........so be positive its always good to find weak links and make them stronger

 

Hey, Thanks to everyone on the board replying to my Nervous Rx7 Mom comments! So far the summer has gone GREAT! My "baby" [Rx7] driven by my "babies" is in one piece, tires intact, none the worse for wear! She's been kept full of gas. After I taught the "how-tos" oil checking, etc things are going fine. She gets to go out darn near every day and is spinning her rotors like a top! I have noticed - that we seem to have developed a small oil leak. Every night a 50-cent size fresh oil drip appears on the garage cement floor - midpoint between the front tires, at the front of the engine -suggestions? No major engine work has ever been done -the usual: plugs/hoses/brakes/filters....................any ideas? Thanks!!

yeah, i feel you're pain. right now i'm rebuilding my brothers 91 RX to use for a couple years and then my then 16 year old daughter will be taking it from me!! she's a good kid though, i don't worry TOO much.... if it were a turbo car?? no, i don't think so!

Wow! if I had a car that i've kept so many years I wouldn't let anybody touch it. I'd be all like back off, my car.

 

When I was young my Dad had a new Supra every few years. I was a obedient , and respectful kid, both upfront and behind the scenes. Then I started driving his 88 supra turbo after i got my license. One night in my late teens I was driving alone down a long dark freeway at a very legal 55mph, when suddenly I began hearing the little devil on my shoulder telling me to gun it (you know the one), the car was breathing well in the cool night air, all was perfect, and she was begging me to put the hammer down.. and you know what, I went for it, and dared to open it up on the freeway. I hit 140-ish i believe, and at that point the wind began to whip around the car and it almost broke free....it scared the living sh*t out of me, and I backed off quickly. The thing always did feel like some kind of race car to me, and seemed to demand my respect at all times, but that time i ignored it, big scary lesson, no damage done. I very easily could have hit a ruff patch, or slick part of the highway and totaled the thing, and or killed myself. However, I was one of the kids I knew who luckily DIDN'T screw up his parents baby in some way. Point of all this?...Even the smartest/nicest/well meaning young adults will take risks. Being one of the good kids, I can say from first hand experience that the little devil can strike anyone at any time age 16-60, and with my kids no matter how much i trust them, when the devil strikes it will be in their own sports car, on their own dime

..I'd keep your 7 alive, and say no to the kids....till they offer you their "baby" to try out in trade one day

I feel your pain I have two kids at the age of 10 looking at our turbo fc with 455whp and both wanting it. One of them will get the car but not without me adjusting the microtech everytime before they get into it.

 

With them being in their early twenties, I'd think they'd be fine... course it's not my 7's their driving... my kids know they can go get their own if they wanna drive one... LOL

 

Post pics already, and glad it's still being enjoyed after so many years in the family!
