The name's Dan
Hey, im new here of course. I recently bought an 86' RX7 and so far I love it, even with its flaws and minor issues. I have been through a good high school mechanic program and have worked on many vehicles from V-8's to Inline tuners to my last car (Subaru WRX) and it's boxer engine, and i have yet to experience the rotory. So far its like my second love and im excited to work on and and put my TLC into it. I do have some questions that im going to be looking for here like most. I have heard that rotary engines are hard to tune and are difficult to work on, but im down for the challenge. Thats all I have for now, I'll talk to you guys later in the forum!
Thanks for the future help, and the welcomes to the site!!

Hey Dan,
I'm new to rx-7s too, but not to cars in general. I'm not sure what the 86 model is like but on my 82 model it is relatively simple once you get some of the crap off the carburator that is not needed. As far as tunning goes mine only has one adjustment. I think i need to rebuild the carb. because it runs great at full throttle but won't idle and surges and jerks alot.
Take care

Thats the same with mine at high rpms it sounds great but when it idles it sounds rough. I don't know if there is a big diff between carb'd and TB'd rotary engines though. Sounds like were having about the same problem though.

Dan. Have you tried a general tune up? like plugs, wires, rotor cap and button, fuel filter. You might try running some good fuel system cleaner through her too. My engine is the 12a. I guess yours would be the 12A or 13B.

Mine is the 13b, and i will certainly take the advice into account. How do you go about checking for timing on the rotaries.. What does it time?
Just curious since there are no valves or cams.
