WA My Lil Intro

Hello RX7 Community! My name is Winton and people call me Wonton. I am a junior in high school in the North West area. I found a 1987 GXL FC for a killer deal of $1300 on the local craigslist. Due to her trim level sounds like it and people at my school saying I look like Sung Kang (a bit of a joke in fact) I named her Gissel.

She came with tons of problems such as a clutch almost worn to the core; non-working windows; non-working outside door handles, and to deal with this, I tied a bungee cord to the interior door handle and pulled it out and used a hook to hook in on my moonroof (which by the way doesn't work) so whenever I wanted to get in I would pull the cord and the door would open on the inside; a really crappy interior (cracked dash and cracked vents); a non-functioning fuel gauge and a speedo who decides on its own when it wants to behave; and a really rough radiator and a terribly rough idling brapper engine, just to name a few. I am currently working for my dad and making a little bit of money so I can build this car the way I want to.

Currently, it has a stage 1 Exedy clutch installed and I am planning on buying a template from Mazdatrix and borrow my friend's engine hoist and street port her. She also has terrible paint issues so a repaint is coming soon as well. My goal for her is to one day take her on a track day so lots have to be accomplished before that. Thanks for reading thru this.

Welcome!! IT sounds like you have a lot of little issues to sort out before a rebuild and street port. That rebuild will be over $1500 in parts alone, not to mention porting supplies. You may want to just start taking care of the small stuff like the door handles and the gauges. It will be much more enjoyable to drive with the little stuff working. Would love to see some pictures of the car if you had a chance!

I’m in Lynnwood/ Edmonds area. I do not know of any local RX groups because honestly washington is a pretty dead place for rx7s. I went to last year’s HID while I didn’t have the rx7 but this year I’m gonna go to more meets to talk to people.
