My 96 fd cursed story.
Where do I start.
I'd probably be able to write a book about what I have been through with my FD.
3 years ago I bought my dream car, 96 rx-7 fd, montego blue, fully imported from Japan.
After getting the car compliant to conform to Australian car standards, all I can remember is the first week being on top of the world, every day after that a complete nightmare.
Week one, after taking the beast out, I noticed the car started overheating and a red sensor light started beeping, car overheating, steaming etc. After a couple of these episodes, I noticed a crack on the overflow container. I decided to take the car to the experts. A small crack turns out that the engine is cooked.
5K later, 4 weeks later I'm back on the road. For about a week, I'm starting to feel
a bit better after being stung at the meachanics. A couple of weeks go by when I try to put the car in 1st gear and no forward accelelation. I know something is wrong already, and yet again another trip to the mechanics.
2K later and a heavy duty clutch replacement and I'm on the road again.
Two weeks later I notice the car loosing 1st gear accelelation, I know something is wrong, a trip to the mechanic fails to find anything apart from a recommendation to change the compliant exhaust system
to allow her to breath better.
1K later and a modified exhaust and all seems a lot better now.
A month goes by and I'm enjoying my FD when a letter in the mail from the road traffic authority tells me that my fd is too load and that I have 30 days to change back the exchaust to be compliant. I have no choice,
the exhaust goes back on, more $$. 2 months later my car is back on the road again.
2 days later disaster.
While in the car with my fiance, and driving on the highway a drunk driver smashes into me. The right side of my fd is totalled. I'm devastated. The driver doesnt have insurance so I have no choice but to make a claim
with my insurance. The devastation was only to get worse. My insurance policy had expired, 2 days over. They refuse to fix my fd. I feel like a total idiot and am very angry they guy that hit me wont fix my car. I tow my fd to my home and break down into tears.
Going to court would have probably cost me another 5K without knowing if I would win the case.
For the last 3 years my fd has been in my driveway, while I have scrounging around to find the almost impossible ridiculously expensive parts
to fix her. All I can do from day to day is start her up for 5-10 min a day so the turbos wont go on me. I feel sick looking at her.
3K later, 3 years later, I have managed to get all the parts. She is in the shop getting fixed...another 3K for paint and panel beating. I get her back in 2 weeks.
The moral of this story is:
1) Never buy an FD auntil you have a mechanic thoroughly look into the engine.
2) Always have an FD insured no matter what.
