Me and My FC and My History

The latest exhaust setup. Welded myself (very amateur and excessive beads but no leaks
Bought my first fc right after i turned 18 (looked 15 at the time). It was an 1986 na s4 with random parts all over, manual trans, barely red more pink if anything no clearcoat on the car except the front fenders which were rusting at bottom (typical) and different color. It had basically been passed person to person in the north east like around 15 owners (i know there are 3 owners after me too lmao) lol really wasn't that bad of a car tho. Needed some wiring work cause wires were exposed, melted, frayed etc... would spark sometimes lol. Had a lil accident a previous owner slid it into curb and guardrail i think. Very low speed, only very light rear quarter damage and the wheels had positive camber. Bought for $1200 with suposed fresh half bridge port rebuild (did start right up when first bought and had the idle for sure) was loud af with a straight through style exhaust and a weak af straight through muffler at the end, brand was manzo or something. Had a short shifter, gutted, turbo wheels, supposed lsd (i barely did anything with it cause i had no clue what i was doing), had racing beat header and Tokico blue shocks w/stock springs. I put a battery in the car messed with the idle to try and get it down i think i did eventually or something idk. Basically did little things here and there all while ruining it and letting sit. Im pretty sure i dumped about a full bottle of 2 strole oil in less than half a tank... i was a dumb kid. That made sure it barely ever started lol but when it sat for a month or so it had the rotors well lubricated. Anyway i just got rid of it cause it was kinda sketchy.

About a year later and after doing a ton more research and realizing that i was an idiot kid. I bought the fc i have now for $3000, 1990 s5 gtu, black on black which is kinda rare, has the rare mud flaps, manual trans and the interior is very very clean. When I bought the car had 60k on mazda rebuild, and 114k on body. Being a north east car had dots of surface rust every where, front fender rust, primer showing along rear hatch, and no paint really left on pass door. More in a lil bit.

Okay I'm back:
Anyway mods, she has super heavy junk "racing" wheels on her, only because what's attached to them are Firehawk indy 500's with much life left and like damn do they stick to the road. Putting ksport 3 way adjust coilovers on rn, has racing beat header heat wrapped, ac deleted cause i aint no b****, keeping power steering cause I'm a scrauny lil b****, no cruise control, koyorad, cork sport oil lines, custom 2.5 in exhaust I made myself finished recently (see pic), i have intake manifold gaskets to put in, toe eliminator bushings i need to put in asap and idk.

Want to do.
Take the thermowax coolant lines and instead run ice water through it by taking the thermo adjust screw and setting it to where the car will always idle a lil high (900 rpm?) so it won't stall when trying to idle when cold(start up).
Cut off the hemroid looking spare tire well and weld in a flat panel, that seam rusted quick af
Nos
Get new injector seal/inserts and get injectors tested (oil smells like straight gas... leaky injectors)
Washer fluid injection from the washer fluid tank, pump and everything.
Maybe eventually take a mini cooper or dodge neon supercharger (they are pretty low boost, but I'd run an even bigger pulley for less boost)
Eventually t2 swap or sell cause kinda rusty.
No particular order basically what needs to get done as in maintenence is first.

Koyo rad.

That air filter is just to keep out dust and junk out

Issues had and have:
Needs eliminator bushings ones in are shot
The oil cooler mount bar that goes across was rusty af on that side mounts so cut it out and have the new mounts drawn just gotta make them and mount them.
Dailyed for a lil while and the lil rust spot grew... in some places a lot.

I actually don't really have any on this phone. Got a new phone about a year ago. She's just been in the garage. Since then.

Edit: I'll get some soon

Continuing

So a few more things that I'm gonna be doing (sorry if i repeat) are replace the spare tire hemroid with a flat unnoticeable pieces of thick n flat stainless, more rust work cause i drove her my first year of ownership as a daily with every little surface rust spot becoming actual rust spots, aluminum hood but before I get that I'm going to try to make my own vents in the steel hood just to practice my fabrication skills (try to make a template),

Im just going to edit this later

Update Work Done

Evo 8 wheels 8 in. Wide

Junk aftermarket wheels 7.5 in. Wide and weight around 10 lbs more

Comparing. The black wheel polished lip looks nice but wheels design and weigh just don't do it for me. The Evo 8 wheels are mucho bueno!!!

Another comparison shot

Real question. Do I have to run extended studs???? I don't want the wheels falling off but exchanging all the studs will be a pain in the ***** and basically means i have to replace all wheel bearing too... i want to drive her this summer before I got to university 6 hrs away.

Radiator brackets done just need some rubber mounts slipped in.

Oil cooler brackets done.

Update and Near Future Plans

To Do List:
Brakes
4 piston calipers - having issues finding both that will actually come within 5 days instead of a month
Ebc yellow stuff - we shall see how I like...
Drilled and slotted rotors
Any advice welcome!!!!
Wideband
bung welded in and sensor screwed in, just wiring it in.
Wheels
Tires for Evo 8 wheels - help need to save $$$$
Probably have to put in extended studs even though i really don't want to.
Rear end
Hubs off toe eliminator bushings going in along with new wheels bearing or bearing depending on if i do extended studs
Exhaust
Probably going to have to chop up rear section of the exhaust because it hangs too low about 1 - 1 1/2 inches of clearance.
Injectors
Need to send them out for testing and cleaning because they are leaking gas into oil... yes I know thinning oil. I know, this could I suppose fix my slightly misfire like sound/lumpy idle.
Possible Vaccumn Leaks
I'm think the injector seats might be my culprit
What's happening is that if there is any worse of a vaccum leak the car will fluctuate the rpms at idle and like do a weird mifire/backfire sound on decreasing rpms. Any Ideas???

Done:
Deleted rear speakers - for easier access to coilovers
Deleted antenna motor

Trying to get this thing done so i can do at least like 2 autocross events and take to car shows and drive to events in like Lime Rock. Any advice or wanna hit me up dm me on Instagram @Dirty_oil6

Hi! It looks like things are coming along nicely.

The front wheel studs can be replaced with the hubs still on the car. IIRC, I had to modify the shield to get the extended studs in there. The rear hubs, however, had to be removed and dismantled. That was a bit more of a pain, but I did manage to retain the bearings I had.

Good luck!

Dope thanks for the info!!! I really didn't want to ruin and have to replace all the bearings, but we are replacing 1 of them in the rear already so that's perfect!!!!! That actually really helps!!!

First time on the ground in about a year

The k sports spun down a lot and this thing is still low af

She got really dirty in the garage... it was bad and yes I did rinse her off.

I'm 6 ft. 2 in. And this thing is legit only up to my sternum like holy crap.

No front end shots yet cause no front end yet lol

Got the toe eliminator bushings, ARP extended studs and 2 rear wheel bearings in and ready to go. Got the 4 piston calipers and thought that id be able to get them in and working this summer but its not gonna happen... next year I guess. Gonna keep building them tho!! Gotta do a base coilover setup, address oil pan leak, oil change, maybe change secondary injectors cause one is leaking bad (brand new oil smells like gas already) and then I'll be able to drive her before I leave for my 4 year

Quality ARP

The part numbers for the ARP extended studs for my 1990 fc rx7

Installing the studs was very easy, on these car s the hubs are aluminum, so as long as you support the hub hammering the studs in and out was okay. Press is better tho

Front hub installed

The full track day package

Front end finally on needs some serious adjusting

Heres build ideas... Vaccum actuated variable runners, fender vents/extractors, hood vents/extractors, ducktail spoiler w/ gurney flap all supported by splitter rod mounts and using splitter rods for angle adjustment, splitter duh, run a ghetto little meth injection using the stock washer fluid reservoir and pump but with a low flow misting nozzle, get T-II or bigger secondary injectors and run some nos, real cold air intake possibly make is so that its pressurized by the air in front of the car (large surface area of air collection crammed into the small air box, make air intake piping out of aluminum rather than the rubber stock piece, make a custom trick exhaust muffler that doesn't cause much backpressure, and on and on. Can't wait to do all this awesome stuff!!!! Clearly I love tinkering

Blew a Coolant Seal and Ranting About Random Things

So, here's the story. So we got the coilovers on, we didn't get to finish the brake upgrade because a caliper bolt snapped. I put some rubber spacers under the radiator mounts, my battery tray is junk, so I zip tied and ratchet strapped the battery in place, checked the fluids, checked all the tire pressures, did an eyeball alignment, checked all the nuts and bolts we touched and finally started it up to take it for a little drive.
At this time I knew the injectors had been leaking for a like 4 months now, so I ordered new stock injectors off ebay and replaced them finally. Sadly, I waited to late and I believe the gas sitting in the engine caused the coolant seals to swell and become brittle.
So, on the first drive the car felt weird like there was a sensor that was messed up or something but I thought it was plugs so I was like meh lets gets the plugs hot with some rpm so we started doing some pulls which felt very sluggish but were good enough and exhaust is just way too loud like just dumb loud. The car was just screaming at high rpm but so deep and mellow at low rpm. (My mufflers/resonators are a straight through and mesh cone style). It was fun. I drove the car a few times before the seal blew)

To be continued.

The ride height is high but the exhaust in the back hung down too much and you know the nose of these cars stick out so much that they scrap really easily on inclines so it was okay for at the time

Motors blown

The car always had some weird cooling issues. There always seemed to be air in the system but as long as the engine was getting cooled enough I was okay with it. So what I'm thinking is that there must've been some pressurizing of the coolant system. I think that's what blew my cxracing rad along with my *** bending the rad weakening the metal. Yes A coolant system is supposed to have pressure I get that I understand, but what would happen is when the car was running there was tons of pressure but after it sat over night there would be a vaccum. Idk it just seemed to be really low on coolant when I'd check it. No white smoke, but being a dumbass kid i put dome stopleak into the coolant when I had the cx racing rad and I think that is what was stopping everything from leaking into the combustion chamber but during the drive it would break up and excess pressure would get into the rad. Idk hypothesizing. Anyway so my dad and I did all this work and whatever and I finally got it registered and back in the road. Finally a few days later hard starting and white smoke. I hate the s5 water neck... why is it so god damn tall????? Its just stupid. I'm going to make my own shorty water neck so I can actually get all the air out of the system. For the new motor. So with the motor, I want to try and rebuild it myself but I don't know if anything is warped because my temp sensor is just absolutely aids. Idk I may or may not have overheated the engine, I genuinely have no clue. The koyo I have is more than enough cooling capacity for an NA street car, basically stock car. So over my very long winter break I took everything off the engine and it sits right now as just the block with a couple bolts in the trans to remove and motor mounts to remove.

Rats nest

Nice and clean... probably a vacuum leak

Vaccum leak

5/16/2020 Report

I don't think I ever truly introduced myself... Hi, I'm Christian. If you live around the NY, Capital Region HMU. I could use some rotary friends / help.

Anyway, I still have the car. Still haven't pulled the motor but I'm trying to clean up my gross *** garage before I do. Things need to happen before I can rebuild it. On another note, unless I stumble upon a perfect s5 N/A Just rebuilt motor for the right price, I'm not buying another motor. Let's hope mine's not toast.

Been quite awhile since I updated this

Turbo brakes, stainless brake lines, k sport coils, k sport rotors

Had the whole rotating assembly balanced by rotary science

Original ports endplate ports

End plate after full bridgeport

Center plate before

Center plate after

Is ported intake manifold six port

Assembling the motor the first time

My custom oil pan baffle

Stage 1 NA exedy that was frozen and kept me from driving the car for 2 weeks

So the car is the car sat for 2 years basically basically I got the suspension done is Jim Dunn and then the motor blew coolant seals after sitting over winter. After that it sat a while because I was away for school and I was planning on doing stuff and the covid hit. So I pulled the engine started ordering parts doing it right.
