Hi from the land downunder ..................where we absolutely love Mazda Rotary powered cars..................probably because Australia was Mazda's sales proving (testing) ground in the 60's before hitting the big time markets of USA & UK & Europe.
My first introduction to Mazda's was in 1977 when my parents bought a brand new white 323 5 door hatchback which they later traded in for a brand new limited edition yellow 1981 "WINNER" 323 3 door hatchback.
The first car I bought was a white 1971 Mazda 1300 Coupe.
This was the piston version of the R100.
I'm not sure if the USA got the 1300 Coupe but I know you did get the R100 with round head lights from 1970 on wards.
I loved & cherished this 1300 Coupe & it's what led me to become a Mazda Enthusiast.

i visited Australia back in 2007 (perth) and was blown away at the amount of rotary cars riding around town. i knew they were popular from all the youtube vids from back in the day. really wish they had the following you guys have here in the usa. i know we have a large community but nothing like australia or even puerto rico.
Welcome!! Do you still have the 1300 coupe? Would love to see some pictures of the car!
Thanks for the welcome.
No I don't have the car anymore.
I sold it to my younger sister who had it for a few years too, and then she traded it in on a Subaru Ute.
Unfortunately even though it was my first car, I didn't take many photos of it. In fact I think I only have two - a rear during the day & a front at night - both are poor shots.
I really would love to track the car down (hopefully not in car heaven) an buy it back, but I didn't record its Chassis Number.
You certainly have a nice collection there - which is your favourite or is that like asking a parent who's their favourite child !
Yeah us Aussie's love the rotary & so do the Kiwi's (New Zealanders).
Because we love 'em so much we have to pay huge amounts for cars & parts compared to the rest of the world.
A definite downside.
I think nearly all the USA early 70's parts cars have ended up in Australia
It is 20 degrees today with a nice southerly wind so we took Breezy out for a cruise. The car always starts first go and always attracts admiring glances from the public. I took these a few minutes ago and reflected on how lucky I am to own this car.
An article will appear in Street Scene later this year about the car. I have attached a link and the feature stories include some incredible cars - MX5s, MPS 3 and 6, R100, RX3, Cosmo. Street Scene is an Australian Capital Territory related site and as Breezy was from this Territory there will be interest in it. Included in the story are rolling shots of my sons driving Breezy out along Lawrence Hargrave Drive and across the Sea Bridge. A big thanks to Justin and Tyler who made the trip from the ACT to the Coast.
The car will feature in a Street Scene story later in the year. My youngest son contacted Tyler and Justin who were very interested to feature the old vert. Street Scene features classic Mazdas from MPS3 and MPS6, SP23, R100, RX3, RX7 and Cosmos from the Australian Capital Territory. Breezy is a former Australian Capital Territory car so there is some interest in it. Yesterday my sons drove the car out along Lawrence Hargrave Drive to the Sea Bridge with rolling shots been taken along the drive. They hadn't driven the car a lot but drove it well. I was behind them and the 12A turbo rotary with the exhaust note sounded awesome without being intrusive. Thanks to Justin and Tyler. This is a photo on instagram taken near the lighthouse.
The car has just returned after completing repairs which had been planned when the car was purchased.
The repairer specialises in show cars and has repaired or restored many Mazda R100s, RX2s, RX3s and RX7s. The quality of the work is excellent.
Items replaced, repaired or renewed -
Renewed silver pinstriping on side protectors entire car
Excellent secondhand front bar fitted
New genuine Mazda lower front apron
New genuine Mazda front header panel
Bottom of the front guards repaired due to paint having been scraped from them.
The repairs were in the main necessitated by damage to the car incurred when lowered noting it sits around 2 inches higher than when I purchased it. Lowering cars really needs to be done under advice from a specialist. A very frustrating process in terms of the reasons why the were required.
This car is currently for sale in Adelaide South Australia. Why are all the convertibles in South Australia? It is a CCA (Convertible Cars Australia) conversion. I hope it goes to a good home and is restored.
An oil lines
New rear muffler with twin stainless outlets
Hub centric rings manufactured to fit the Watanabe wheels.
Check the exhaust under load to check to see its positioning
Throw out bearing Stock engine bay Genuine Watanabe hand made in Japan to be fitted.
Good news this morning with Mazdatrix advising of the dispatch of new RX7 GSL-SE oil cooler from California to Australia. It is around 4 weeks since I ordered it after being advised there would be a 6-to-8-week period on the back order. The service has been excellent from the company. I am pleased to be going back to Mazda genuine with the radiator and oil cooler. I am expecting to have the car back next week and as soon as the new oil cooler arrives I will have it fitted.
