hi wade

depending on the province your in , i have a RHD fd and from about 3 years ago insurance companies started realizing that rhd cars are unsafe so the only companies in ontario that i know of that will insure RHD cars are..
-state farm ( you have to be with them for 6 months or more to even qualify )
-facility insurance( i was with them for 6 months last years , they were $200 a month cheaper then state farm)
-and lastly classic car insurance ( hagerty, silver wheels. the only issue with these places are they are stick on where and how long you drive the car for and you have to be it least 25 years of age.

this coming spring i will be insuring my fd with hagerty, since i really only drive my car on the weekends and maybe to the odd car show or two it was the best choice , and on the plus side i was quoted $800 a year.

so all and all i would be going with facility, there not the cheapest but there not that expensive either but you can only do a 6 month policy and they usually want the money upfront , it least thats how it was for me.

good luck and wish you the best some insurance companies IE state farm will say they dont insure RHD cars so it maybe better to deal with a broker so he can narrow down which will and which wont

Thanks for the info. Insurance options in NS tend to be damned limited. I am also building a Factory Five 65 Cobra replica and it looks like the only option for insurance will be Facility (probably in the range of $1600 per year).

This may drive me in the direction of getting a lhd car just for less hassle.

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately there are few options for car insurance in Nova Scotia if there is anything unique about the car at all (such as RHD). I am currently building a Factory Five 65 Cobra replica and it looks like Facility will be the only option for insurance on that car (probably around $1500 per year). On the other hand, my 2008 Corvette gets insured for $570 per year (and I take most of the coverage off in the winter, so I probably pay around $350 to insure the Corvette for seven months). Even specialty insurance options in Ontario are frequently not available in NS due to the small market. But we have good rates for common cars that are sold in Canada and have not been extensively modified.
