Longtime Lurker

Been reading on the forums on and off for many years. Finally getting serious about picking up my first rotary powered car.

I am a big Mazda fan at heart, having driven a 2001 NB Miata from college through to the yuppie DINK years. Sold it in 2012 and was out of the game until last year. Currently the proud owner of a 2006 Lotus Exige in British Racing Green.

Looking to add an FD to the garage alongside the Lotus, preferably in Vintage Red so it can be Xmas year round 🤣

Allen,

Thanks for sharing the sweet pic of your Exige! How long have you owned it? I too wish you luck in finding the right FD. What are you looking for in an FD - color, options, mods, mileage, etc?

I’ve had the Exige for about 1.5 yrs now. It’s been an amazing experience, about as raw and unfiltered as it gets.

For the FD search I am wanting something middle of the road condition-wise; I don’t want a cream puff that I’ll be scared to drive for fear of hurting its value, but also don’t want something that is ragged out/not loved. Vintage Red or Chaste White would be ideal! Pluses would be recent motor rebuild, reliability mods, use of pre-mix, 99spec exterior bits. Target budget is low to mid $20s, but could stretch it if necessary. Should be possible to find a car with 70-85k miles in that range?

I imagine end game, would be a fairly stock motor (300hp max) with all the possible reliability mods implemented, OMP delete running pre-mix, 99spec front bumper, rear spoiler and taillights, upgraded suspension and a nice set of wheels (BBS LMs or TE37s).

Allen,

Thanks for sharing! I believe your headed down the right path to find the right FD given those requirements. Although finding a Chaste White FD is very rare and would normally command a higher sale price.

This thread is very popular in the 3rd Gen General Discussion area: How to Value Your FD. You may have seen it before during your lurking adventures.

It took me roughly 4yrs to find the right FD and I bought it back in 2004 for $16k.
