Long time RX7 Owner
Hi all,
My name is Bill Spengler. I bought my first RX7 new in 1980. In 1999 after 150,000 miles the seals started to go (coolant leaking into combustion chamber) so I bought a wreck with a rebuilt engine with only 25,000 miles on it for only $300. Put that engine in the 1980 - took three long days to do it. Ran great for about two months until I blew a radiator hose while on an interstate. Taking too long to get off the interstate, I managed to fry the engine for good. Lesson learned - if your going to go to the trouble of doing a major overhaul, spend a few extra bucks to replace all the old stuff before it bites you in the butt.
Then I bought a 1987 RX7 and like it even more than the 1980. After 10 years stated to have seal problems again, so I junked that one and bought a 1991 convertible with only 119,000 mile on it in excellent condition. I love it!
Ive read this forum for years but not posted before so I am now going through the process necessary to earn posting privileges!
