WA Just purchased 94 FD with 49k Miles

Hey guys! I'm so stoked right now, just got home a few hours ago since sealing the deal at the dealership. Just picked up a 1994 Rx-7 R2 for $12k before taxes, 13,5k out the door. I was amazed because I was not expecting it to check out against all my scrutiny but it did. But first, I'll start with a little about myself.

Currently 19 and a college student. First vehicle was a pickup truck that I then sold a year later and bought a honda del sol from my dad. fun little car, albeit slow in the straights. got some of the standard engine mods for it, intake, full exhaust, ignition, wheels/tires, and ended up swapping a slightly better engine into it as well. well, after a couple years of autocrossing it and daily driving it got tired of its slowness and developed a dislike for FWD so I traded it straight across for my current ride, an 06 honda CBR600RR motorcycle. very, very, very fun little machine. can't wait to actually hit up some track days with it.

Lately been looking at getting a subie for a project car and ended up looking for 2 months and couldn't find anything that I liked/wasn't beat to ****. Then the other day I started thinking about how much money I was going to be spending on that car and started asking myself why I had limited myself to such a narrow spectrum of car choices. Well considering my budget for that car was a little over the cost of an FD, one of my favorite cars ever, I decided to get a private loan with very little interest and went down to a dealership today to pick up my first Rx-7 =D

This place mind you specializes in Rx-7's, and they had three FC's and three FD's when I went down today. Honestly I didn't go down there expecting this thing to be that good. but everything checked out. just a slight idle waver and their pretty sure (as am I) its the MAF sensor so their replacing it before I pick it up tomorrow. They took care of (i.e. replaced) all the vaccum lines and checked compression and boost and everything checks out. it is a rebuilt title, stolen from the original owner. but, so was my last car, everything is straight on it bumper and fenders all line up just fine no signs of damage. took him down to $12k so I ain't complaining. On top of all that the salesman was a really cool dude, didn't pressure anything at all, and was very happy dealing with him. especially after the d-bag I talked to the day before lol, but thats a totally separate story.

Anyways, I'm super excited to go pick it up tomorrow and can't wait to get some of those reliability mods on so I can enjoy her a little bit!! good god I'm not gonna sleep tonight, and probably gonna be spacing out in all my classes tomorrow lol.

Welcome.

Try and get a copy of the compression test. Good results are in the 3rd gen FAQ
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

Spend some time reading that thread to learn about the car. There are Buyer's Guides there too that probably would have helped to read before you bought.

I actually did read the buyers FAQ's beforehand. It's in pretty good shape. I also forgot to mention that there is a suspension clunk from the rear, I tracked down the specific one last night after tearing a good bit of the corner assembly apart. Just need to go order the part now. Engine is great, might be a little vaccum leak somewhere though, the Idle goes back and forth between 1600 and 1900, not wandering, but specifically goes back and forth between the two. Once I get that fixed I'll lower the idle down to what it should be, I'm assuming its just set that high because of the waver. Also a little exhaust rattle from a couple stripped out nuts, but thats super easy to fix, and ain't gonn fall off in the meantime. Just pretty minor stuff really, for a technically inclined person like me.

Also I feel pretty good about it because I brought a list of everything to ask about when I went to look at the car, and the dealer went over 85% of what I had written down before I even asked any specifics, so I'm confident that they did know what they were doing when working on the car.

It's got a sunroof and tan leather seats which means it's not an R2. Very nice lower mileage car though, congrats!

Yeah I posted that before I knew the differences lol. Its funny cuz when I typed the VIN into autocheck it said "1.3L R2 EFI" so I just assumed that was correct. fail. anyways, don't particularly care, I like the leather seats and sunroof, and if I feel like adding another oiler cooler, I could.
