NS Just got my first rotary powered car!

Hello everyone! My name's Jeff, I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada and I just bought a 1982 RX7 with the 12A engine. I plan on using it as my daily driver and slowly mod it whenever I can afford to. I'll post some pics this weekend. The car is pretty solid, hasn't been winter driven in 17 years, and it came with a parts car that I've yet to check out(waiting on having it towed to my place). So, the first thing I'd like to ask here is: what are some good things to mod/upgrade that won't break the bank? I already plan on getting an electric fan under the hood and getting the Monza exhaust from Black Dragon. I've never had a car worth modifying before, so I'm very new to this. Not to worry, I won't ruin the car though. I live with a mechanic, and he's going to help me do the work.

Welcome, Jeff!

Congrats on the purchase. We would love to see pics.

I would pass on the Monza exhaust. Many have reported poor fitment and sound. You would be better off getting a used RB (Racing Beat) exhaust. The RB exhaust is very solid and will last a long time even if you get it used.

The car is finally coming home tomorrow(the guy I bought it from was hanging on to it to fix a brake line and get the inspection done for me). I'll post pics as soon as I get it to my place.

One quick question I have, have any of you heard of the RX&s having some steering wheel play? I have to turn the wheel about an inch and a half before the wheels start turning. Anyone know of a way to fix this? Never had this problem with a car before.

Alright, just created an album with some pics. They're not the greatest as they were taken with my cell and it was hard to get good angles because the driveway is crowded. I'll be taking the car out for a drive tomorrow, so I'll try to get some better pics then.

Yeah, I plan on storing it in the winter. My friend stores his 300zx in a 2 car garage, I think my RX7 will be joining it this winter. It looks mint underneath, I plan on keeping it that way.

Holy moses... she's a beauty. I'm on my first rotary too. I might have gone a little nuts with a race built FC as my first but I guess go big or go home, haha. Yours is prettier for sure.

Hey, thanks for the comments everyone. So far I'm really happy with the car. I don't plan on doing any heavy modding to turn it into some sort of beast. After driving it for a bit, it doesn't need much to be a really good car. I'm swapping in the 13b I got in my parts car, going to get s stage 1 clutch and lightweight steel flywheel, new exhaust and everything else will be chasis upgrades. My friend(who is an auto painter) wants to paint it for me for free/cheap depending on whether he has the colors I want or not. I'm keeping it black and might do some ghost scallops in a very dark blue or purple. I'll be keeping the progress updated in this thread and I'll post pictures as we go along.

Winter is pretty unpredictable up here. Last year sucked, we had lots of snow, but the year before it only snowed maybe half a dozen times but was just really cold. But for the most part, winter really only lasts about 4 months at the most.
