Just got my 91

Hi All,
Two weeks ago I bought a 91 with under 30k original miles on it from a great guy in Dallas. He was got it from his parents who got it from their neighbor. So technically I'm the 3rd owner, although really the second. I'd been watching it online for about 6 weeks and when he dropped the price I picked it up.

My old man had a 70 something MG midget when I was in high school. I have fond memories of us giving it a new paint job and redoing the interior together. When he got stationed overseas he let me drive it, which I did until I graduated.

Lately I've been really wanting a convertible again. My 'new' RX7 happens to be a very similar midnight blue as that MG and I love it. I dont' really know much about cars mechanically, so it's great to have found this forum. But, I know what I like, and I really liked this car since the first time I saw it. The first thing that interested me was all the controls. Sitting in the car feels like a cockpit, I love that most of the controls are analog, real honest to god switches and buttons! There's something 'real' about it.

The car had a few issues when I bought it, and here's the plans so far...

First thing (after registration/inspection) was AC needed a recharge. I had to have AC in August in TX. Did that 2 days after I bought it. Next I just gave her a bath and a good vacuuming.

Today I removed the plastic covering off the exterior metal strips at the windows seals. They had some mild rust, so I sanded and painted them black and will then seal with silicon.

Next is (and I'm hoping to find some info on this); Radio. Volume is really low and I can't seem to do anything about it. Everything's functional but no sound. If I go to replace it with an aftermarket I'm afraid I'll get into more wiring than I'm willing to deal with because of the 'surround' speakers. Also automatic antenna no longer works though I hear the motor working. I plan to replace it with a modern low profile antenna. So right now just researching this.

Last thing she really needs is seat covers. I plan to do that next month. Later (maybe sometime next year) will probably get a new top and it should be good as new. A paint job wouldn't hurt but it's not really all that bad.

Will post some pics when I'm able. Thanks for having me! And thanks for the Forum!
Rob

yup, just got my 91 rx from my brother. it needs A LOT of work, as in a total restoration. that hasn't kept me from driving it around the block a few times, even with the dying clutch! are you talking about the window seals at the bottom of the windows? mine are totally shot.. painting sound like good solution for now!
