Jennifer from NE Arkansas, '88 vert
Maybe this is too much information, but it's late and I'm bored....
I got my rx7 last month, it's pretty solid.
126k, less than 40k on a new crate motor and clutch.
Needs some mechanical work (actually quite a bit). I've already pulled the starter and had it rebuilt.
Next project will be a new radiator. I'm looking forward to learning how to do some of the work myself. (good excuse to buy tools).
I hope to fit in well here, and meet some new friends. Hopefully there are more rx7 owners in the NE AR area that I can hook up with, as I have retired from the local vette club...
a bit about me (relating to cars, anyway).....
I drove a convertible for the first time when I was 17 (1989), it was my uncles car, a new '88 rx7. I knew from the first drive I had to have a convertible!
Our deal was that I'd wash the car and then I could drive a friend around town, boy what a thrill.
So now, 20+ years later, I own almost an identical car. (and wheels are as much a pain in the **** to wash as I remember!)
My first open top car was a '95 honda del sol, bought right after I graduated from college. It was sadly totaled in '99 by an idiot in a mustang 5.0L.
So I ended up in the '92 Mazda 323 hatchback that I had in college (parents made me a good deal).
Then I had the itch for a convertible again, so in '02 I got an Audi TT Roadster, turbo. Wow talk about luxurious! Unfortunately I don't have a personal German mechanic, so when the warranty ran out and a $700 dash cluster replacement, I sold that one!
Since I was 6 years old I've wanted a Corvette, but when I drove my dad's '73 4-spd big-block I kinda gave up that dream. Too short to push the clutch all the way down without the couch pillow behind me, and could barely see over the hood (I'm short...)
Long story short (yea, this is already long) I ended up with a 2000 6-spd vert. Electric seats are very adjustable. I have had the vette for 5 years, and am ready for a change. I want to pay off my house and plan for retirement and taking care of my aging parents, so the vette goes. FAST is fun, but unnecessary. Can't justify the $$$, not to mention the valuable real-estate it takes up in my garage (the c-5's are big)! I could never justify the expense of upgrading things like the interior or exhaust etc having so much invested in the car. Parts for the rx7 are SO much more affordable..... :o)
