I've been given an '88 Convertible free!
It's coming home tomorrow and that's why at age 56 I am an RX7 newbie. Actually my 16 year old son and I will be bringing this one back to life together and then we get to fight over who drives it after he graduates from learner's permit to license in the fall.
It's a black '88 convertible with 140,000 miles but was very well cared for and looks like it's a 60,000 mile car. It overheated and the owner decided not to rebuild it. Unfortunately this happened a year ago and it has sat ever since. I don't know what actually went wrong but I assume if it was water seals the core is probably junk after sitting so long. We'll know soon enough.
After we get hold of it we'll (actually my son will) clean it up. Then we'll move it into the garage to pull the engine.
I've some experience, mostly with air cooled VWs and Porsches, and mostly long ago. Should be fun.
We'll post pictures after we get it.
If anyone has suggestions for engine rebuilders or mechanics in the Philadelphia, Pa. area, particularly west of the city, it'd be helpful. (not much luck with the search engine)
thanks and glad to be aboard,
Russell
