CA Introduction.Bill from San Fransisco

My name is Bill, I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for longer that I can remember (I'm getting old, LOL) but I started my career working with Mazdas back on the east coast.
I registered here today out of curiosity. I worked professionally in 3 different dealerships, the last one was for 17 years before i retired from the car biz.
While most folks probably come here to learn about their Mazdas one of my headaches is a mind full of now useless information I'd rather just forget but unfortunately cannot! Example: the license plate wiring on RX-2 sedans that get bound up in the trunk hinge and cut causing the lights to go out.
Or how much in total you can grind off 12A cast iron housings in total, how much shorter you are allowed to make the engine total and at what point would the rear rotor touch the front of the rear stationary gear (disaster)
Back when we used to change out engines
I'm sure I could still overhaul a rotary 4bbl carb in record time just from memory.
I've seen lot's of strange and unusual things happen along with the usual stuff.

And before anyone takes the obvious shot at me here.....I used to be a pert, now I'm an expert , but I know full well I don't know it all and won't claim to.
I've been on lots of chat boards, seen lots of people come in, guns blazing, and disappear just as quickly- but that's not me, OK?

As time permits I may be able to help members with technical questions.

Good question, never see RX-2's on the road anymore. I used to buy them for $25.00 in the mid to late 70's and throw in a fresh 12A, drive it for a while, sell and repeat.
Even in no-rust California they have all but disappeared.

One time I lent my RX-2 to a roommate when his Volvo 122 crapped out. He drove the car up to Lake Tahoe for the weekend. When he came home his eyes were bugging out and he wanted to know what the hell was up with the engine in that car because he had never driven a Japanese car that accelerated like that!

One of my friends from New Jersey raced the ex- Car & Driver RX-2 in IMSA, I used to go help out when they were doing races in California at Laguna Seca, Ontario Motor Speedway, Sears Point, etc. That was a lot of fun, the power band in the race car was narrow but strong (and loud), IIRC it came on from 7K to 9500 RPM.
I wonder what ever happened to that car?
